Comments (11)As Minnie says, not a fan of chalk paint on furniture, it has it's places, but for a washable surface with kids around it's a big No No. It has to be sealed and then it doesn't look like chalk paint anymore - and, quite frankly it's a load of old B*** that it sticks to almost any surface - almost being the operative word there. You can paint ikea units. Scratch the surface with a fine grade sandpaper 120 grit....then use a good quality water based primer - we use dulux. ( one coat should be enough with dulux ) Then buy a waterbased satinwood paint - also our preference is Dulux Diamond Trade..............you can pick your colour off any of their colour cards. You have great flat surfaces, so if it were me i'd roller the top coat on with small gloss rollers. You may need to do more than two coats but it will give a better finish than using a brush. Don't over load the roller, don't worry too much about the small air bubbles, they flatten out when it dries and kind of gel together. x...See MorePaint colur advice please to match wood effect porcelain tile please

Comments (3)my house is a 1920's semi so it isn't a good comparison with your old farmhouse. We had condensation running down the exterior walls of the all bedrooms , the windows and the stair wall. When we removed the wallpaper, there was black mould! This was despite the house having double glazed windows, GCH , extractors in the bathroom and kitchen and an insulated loft. We had the house rendered, trickle vents put on all the windows and radiators moved to under the windows. All the plaster was blown, so we had this replaced as well. Because the whole house was replastered, I put those plastic moisture traps in every room. I think that this combination has really helped with the condensation, we haven't had any since....See MoreCondensation in concrete house!
Comments (6)Hi Laura, A few questions that can help you trace the problem. - Has the condensation always been there? - If not, did it coincide with any kind of renovation work, like removing a chimney, wall vent, double glazing, kitchen re fit? etc - Did it coincide with a new appliance, like a washing machine, dryer etc? - Did it coincide with a lifestyle change e.g. more cooking, kids moving home etc. - Does your boiler loose pressure often? A few years ago my parents house suddenly developed a condensation problem. Everyone noticed it but we couldn't figure out why. We tried all the normal things like opening windows, turning the heating up and we even bought an electric dehumidifier. The dehumidifier worked great but a few hours after switching it off the condensation came back. One day I was in the kitchen and noticed a hissing sound so managed to trace it to behind the fridge. It was the mains pipe. Water was spraying in through the tiniest of cracks, so small I almost missed it. My guess is that it had been leaking for as long as the condensation problem had been there i.e. nearly a year, but the crack was bigger now and that's why I heard the hissing. Back then my parents had lino on the kitchen floor and the water had just been collecting under it. I fixed the pipe and within a few days the condensation cleared up and hasn't been back since. So might be an idea to go around the house and check all the plumbing....See MoreEarl & Calam Design and Build Ltd
