layout of new ensuite

Hi everyone, we are turning a bedroom into an ensuite. Would welcome any improvements on this layout, if you can see any. I know it’s preferable not to have the toilet in front of the door, but...
The window is 1.5m wide x 0.9m from the floor...it will have obscured glazing & blinds so privacy is not a problem.
I would like a linen basket but not sure if there’s an ideal place for it in this plan so may need to have it in the bedroom instead.

I was going to say have a vanity unit of some description for storage but can see that looking at the image you have drawers. It’s amazing how much clutter one collects.

Hi All - taking on board your comments I have come up with three variations. Of course would love your comments! The distance from vanity to WC in plan 1 is approx 60cm - it could be made a bit more. This falls within the guideline you posted (23inches). More space could be created by making the shower a bit narrower (shown on all 3 plans as 1m wide (39 inches). I don't think there is quite enough space to divide the room and the problem with the idea of the bath right in the middle is that on a practical basis we would have to walk around it on a daily basis to get to the shower! Could quickly get very annoying!

Thank you for your advice. It doesn't show the shower booth size on the pic. It's only 30 * 30 inches. I am not good at drawing I realised but measurements are accurate I suppose. all are wall to wall without skirting board measurement. The shape is more or less similar however the space of the shower booth wall to toilet walls are rectangle that's why I thought It's better to make walk in shower there but shower head will be on the shower booth side so as you said it's awkward. I didn't think about waste pipes and have no idea. can the fitter not move/hide them? Obviously I want hung toilet and basin on the countertop( of course hung storage with it) Also, ceiling waterfall shower. Also, I have another option that moving left side to the wardrobe space a little bit. But again big problem is there that shower booth wall is longer than wardrobe wall so if I extend left side the shape will be again awkward. My husband can move the wall, he said easy but I don't believe it. Anyway, his carpenter friend give us hands.

I agree that it is unusual now to find a new house without one but I think if you have space to put an extra shower room elsewhere so that you still have more than one then it should be okay. Ideally somewhere not far from the master bedroom. Also like the suggestion for you to put in all of the pipe work etc so that it can easily be added later. If you dont get round to it upon resale then atleast there is less work for a buyer.

Hi I think you have chosen the best and really only layout for this space. My suggestions are to look at ways to make this space the most comfortable you can, think about a minimal shallow shower tray so there isn't a big step, with the shower screen door opening into the shower and a small wall hung vanity so you have more floor space. Think about the WC position, when you sit on the WC your knees don't want to bang on the sink so I think you have to keep it fairly central on the back wall. You can get space saving short projection WC's like the Villeroy and Boch O.novo. It looks like you have a window on that wall so making sure the WC fits under that and so on will make the space look fabulous and perfectly formed!

Not sure if there's room for this, but put the bath where the toilet and sink is (so you look at side of bath when you enter), put the shower where the bath is, the toilet where the shower is and the sink where the toilet rail is. Or move the door so it opens into the middle of the room and put sink behind door (but I know that's not ideal either).

I was going to suggest what colourwisedesign suggested with the attendant additional costs of getting your waste to the new sub stack, but on looking at the pics, I’d leave it as it is. It isn’t ideal to open the door to a toilet, but if you use a nice one, it wont look out of place. I’d use a back to wall with a nice flush plate (Geberit do some really nice ones), and have a spotlighted niche above it - take it up to the ceiling (nearly, not quite) and divide it up with glass shelves (toughened). Thank you colourwisedesign for your suggestion, I had a play around but like you said I’m not sure there is enough room for the toilet & vanity there. I don’t really want to move the door along as want to be able to use the wall space in the master bedroom. Thanks again :)

Thanks Patricia I think you are right in leaving the layout as per the plan. I like your idea of the niche above the toilet to draw your eyes up. I am wanting to put wall lights either side of the mirror above the vanity so will look into this. Thanks again :)
