I have an inset glass brick wall between my kitchen and living room - Victorian terrace to steal light - what can I replace it with to update

Not sure what your budget is, but Crittall style windows are very trendy at the moment. Something like this

Glass bricks were created for the shower area, great idea. Will defo give it a contemp feel with lots of light.. Go ahead and use them. I've had them installed for a shower wall and look fab, sorry no pics!!

From what i'm reading, I think you have only two choices on actual brick walls. The one with the cooker is an outside wall isn't it?? .....and then the one with the clock. Totally depends on how much work you want to make for yourself. If you just want to 'dip a toe', then go for the one with the clock. If you want to go all out then do the one with the cooker and hob. However..........and we have done a few of these now........that is Victorian houses...........Lyme plaster is a pain to work with!. Once you touch one bit 10 minutes later you've got a patch 3'x3', then you get bits that feel like they're welded on! Also, we have found on many of the houses that we have done full renovations on, the Victorians were fond of an 'anything goes' brick size approach! So be prepared to unearth allsorts and more importantly, be prepared to have to re-point most , if not all of the brickwork with Lyme mortar and then seal it! It isn't for the feint hearted. Here's an old Chimney breast that we did a few years ago in an Attic Bedroom. ( Before and After ) and finally ones on a Chimney breast from a different house. That's me in the photo !!! Have fun

Sliders all the way. My sister has had them installed in her kitchen - 3 panes filling the whole of the back of the house and it looks amazing. She has gone for a very modern country look so clean lines, shaker doors, very light and airy. Here’s a view with one door slid open, please excuse the garden as that’s next on the list once lockdown over!

Crittall normally sits really well in a Victorian house. I’m in Crittall county and there are a lot of victorian factories locally with crittall windows although people tend to associate it most with the 1920’s but they were founded much earlier. It will sit really well with the exposed brick too

what Sonia says is good if that's what you have the budget for and you still want the light. if the lights not needed then a cheaper quick option to patch the wall up would be to plasterboard up the window and make it as though it was never there...
ORRRR.. you could remove the window? and make it another walkway entrance to the kitchen area? if you take the kitchen door off too then there could just be a pillar bit in the middle

We do need the light but also want to close off the kitchen from the living area so walkway through wouldn’t work - also supporting wall for back of three storey house

Personally I would close that up, and make the doors wider and make a feature of them.
