What colour to paint landing?
We’ve finished the hall and stairs, more or less. There’s still a second coat and some cutting in needed in places. I’ve put a big gold home made artwork at the top of the stairs , in lieu of expensive gold wallpaper. But what should I do with the rest of the landing, built in cupboard, doors and woodwork? And the second smaller flight of stairs and floor? I’m at a loss for colour. I like boldness but don’t want to jangle my brain, or make the green look gloomy. I thought maybe carpet on the floor might work, but would it look weird with the painted stairs?

3 years agoHere’s a couple of examples showing green with white woodwork and one with a deep blue-grey door which looks lovely too.

Comments (14)Agree with GD11 - a warm white or grey will work well all year. As you have a porch in front of the door that is limiting light coming in and especially in winter you will find some greens and blue very depressing. I would also ditch the stair gates. We had one for the first child and he kept playing with it, so we just taught him not to go near the stairs and he learned to bump, or more normally slide down the stairs. never bothered with a gate at all for my other kids. How nice is it not to have to open and close a gate every time you need to go up and down the stairs? Comments (4)Hi Tracey, Dulux can match many colours and their paints are really good. I wouldn't recommend Johnstone's unless you are willing to spend least on paint. Comments (15)Well what a coincident! Visited a friend yesterday who is having her hallway, stairs and landing painted on Monday and wanted my advice (!). She has chosen a Karndean style herringbone floor for her hall and a soft check stair carpet in a warm caramel colour. Staircase is oak and glass. Not much natural light in the hall. We looked through loads of paint charts but she didn’t want the expense of F&B or Little G. Then we both felt Dulux Caramel Latte or Caramel Blush would look good. 3 years agoHiya Sam, now bear with me because I might be having what can only be described as 'a moment' but I'm envisaging a galaxy mural/wallpaper on your tardis wall and then pick up the purple tones from that on your other walls. White cupboard, painted in green to match that wall and then architraves painted to match their corresponding wall colour and skirting to match (if that wouldn't leave the skirting having to change to a new colour in a weird place e.g halfway along a wall).
