Reconfigure - where do we start?

we're looking for ideas how best reconfigure the downstairs. There is a lot of wasted space - particularly under the stairs and the lounge is far too long and thin. We want a large kitchen/dining space plus a utility room and were thinking of pinching some if the lounge and giving to the study to make 2 reception rooms. We don't want to extend. Any thoughts/ideas/recommendations would be gratefully received. Lancashire UK
