kitchen paint colour help
We are finally nearing the end of our renovation and I need to choose paint colours. I want to go neutral on the walls and perimeter kitchen units and darker on the island.
Here is a CAD of our new kitchen but think want to go lighter than this on the perimeter units and darker than this on the island. I’ve got lots of paint samples and quite like little greene’s clay pale for the perimeter units, clay deep for the walls and attic II for the island.
The Windows you can see are south facing though there’s a wall half way up them which blocks some light. At the other end of the dining part of the room we have sliding doors which are anthracite grey and flat roof lights, so although that part of the room is north facing its not too dark.
Has anyone used Attic II in a kitchen or got any advice on it. I like the colour on the sample paper we’ve painted but worried on a big island it will look a bit muddy. Will it go with the Clay pale and deep?

These colours are a lovely pairing. They do have a connection because they are from the same Hue Family neighbourhood - the end of the Yellow-Red Hue Family and just into the early part of the Yellow Hue Family.
I particularly like Attic II. If you want to see examples of something similar, check out photographs of Sherwin Williams Color of The Year - Urbane Bronze. (It’s a fave of mine.)
Attic II is a little darker (lower Value) than Urbane Bronze but is almost twice as colourful, (higher Chroma). As light quality varies so does colour. At times Attic II may appear almost charcoal, or a rich brown and possibly flash the odd hint of green - just as you might see in an actual bronze sculpture.Charlotte McDougall thanked Marylee HRelated Discussions

Comments (10)As a contrast but to prove the colours work together. We have grey units and cream walls, so yes go for it. I think if you have a darker floor and lighter walls, you'll keep the airy theme. I wouldn't bother with named colour paints from the likes of F&B etc, instead as you want to get the shade right, pick your tile, take the tile and a drawer front to any shop that will mix paint and that offers hundreds of shades and get the pale grey right. Comments (12)Paint samples on A2 or A3 size paper and look at them in various areas and at various times of day and with different lightbulbs etc as all of these factors can make a difference ! 3 years agoThe colours and kitchen look lovely. For me personally though as you‘ve got the cabinets both sides I’d either keep the island the same as the units or something with much less contrast. Apologies, it didn’t paint the island very well!

@minnie101 I see what you mean from your mock up of my photo. This is a photo of a kitchen we liked, but I was trying to go for slightly warmer colours. Maybe because we don't have as much space between the island and the wall units it doesn't look as good.
This kitchen has Humphrey Munson paint which I believe is made by Mylands, it is Tailored Grey on cabinetry, Brolly Blue on island and Mainsail on walls. Any idea which 'standard' Mylands paint colours these are closest to?

3 years ago@Carolina I like the colours in the photo you've shared, they look more neutral than grey which is what I want. Do you know what colours they might be?
To give you more of an idea of the space this photo is taken from the kitchen end of the room facing away from the kitchen and I've added Amitco Blonde Oak added using their clever room visualiser (we want a wood effect LVT which brings warmth to the room) . You can see we do have the dark framed doors (anthracite grey) which might help tie in a dark island, although they are some distance away.
Was also thinking of going dark blinds in the bay window, such as these double roller in iron grey. But maybe better going for Navy if we went with @Juliet Docherty's suggestion of Basalt 221
We're having Quartz worktops and wanted to keep it white with a subtle vein, so something like this.
This was my attempt at a mood board which I put together many months ago when starting the project.

3 years agoDo you have samples of the floor and worktop to see everything in situ? The kitchen by the designer Carolina added tends to use Little Greene (tonal versions) or P&P library.
these are all french grey, the last one shown with basalt but it’s impossible to choose colours from images. Another good colour by them is slaked lime which would also work with basalt.
if you’ve got any wood lying around, it would be good to paint testers on that as colours tend to look a shade or 2 lighter on wood (or thick cardboard works well too)
