Wallpaper and curtains - mixing patterns

I am looking at Scion for wallpaper and fabric for a large bedroom (5 x 6 metres). I have chosen Scion Kumana wallpaper on one wall behind our headboard which is charcoal grey. Walls will be french gray pale Little Greene. Having a dilemma about curtains to coordinate with the wallpaper! Scared about mixing patterns, although looking at images on Pinterest like mixed patterns when done correctly but scared of making an expensive mistake with the curtains with the wallpaper. Anyone have any ideas? I was looking at the Scion Esala Lionel in Denim blue to coordinate but not sure whether plain or textured would be better. It is a big room and the wall paper only on the back wall, windows on opposite and side wall which are plain light grey painted.

Love Scion fabrics and have 2 roman blinds in it. I personally wouldn’t mix fabrics/wallpaper. It’s a very difficult look to pull off. I would either have the wallpaper with plain curtains in a similar shade to the walls, or have patterned curtains with plain painted walls.

The patterns work together (assume part of the same collection?!) but for me personally it’s a question of scale. If you’ve got a huge window and therefore curtains I wouldn’t put them together personally (I also prefer this colour way).

The rest of this room is also very pared back with natural materials which (to me) is why it works.

The paint is a bit of a chameleon, how does it look in your room?

I like the abstract line, what’s the pattern name? Just wondering if it comes in other colours.

Here in Oregon, we refer to a den as more of a manly, comfy room. Part office, part tv room. The family room is like a living room but with a tv. A living room is generally more formal and used for casual conversation. For a house that doesn't have a family and living room both, the words are interchangeable though, which can get confusing for people used to more formal living. We are fairly informal around here. I would assume drywall is like plasterboard. When houses are built, the framing goes in, filled with insulation on exterior walls, then all of the studs get covered with big sheets of drywall that then gets all the seems "taped" and smoothed and then texture is sprayed over it all, then paint. Drywall isn't used in all rooms, there is a special kind called green board used in bathrooms, which is mold resistant. Cement board is also used on any walls or floors where tile is being applied, like bathrooms or kitchens, which is also mold resistant. I am loving this subject! It's so fun to see what people all over the world call different things.

I agree with minnie about the curtain fabric. Very elegant. Not so keen on the wallpaper. Two points: I think the valance boxes for the curtains are too heavy and bring down the room. What is it like underneath? Could you remove them to lighten the look (or shorten the box)? Second, have you considered having a different wallpaper? Certainly I don't recommend painting over wallpaper - so far, it never works and you see the seams if not immediately, over time.

I would suggest a slub textured raw silk in the the pale coffee/beige colour of the wallpaper with an interlining for a really luxurious look and have the curtains cover the whole window wall when closed and only expose the glazed section when open. You could use a pole at a very high level or have a shaped pelmet to reveal the lovely window detail.........see attached photos

Bedroom curtains ican't be too plush in my opinion. I'd go for a good weight slub velvet and make sure you don't skimp on the type of heading. A lot of ready made curtains have 2" headings which can look cheap and nasty. Pinch pleats look great, but if funds are tighter, then go for a 3" Pencil Pleat. There are many sites that offer them made to measure for fairly reasonable prices. This one, Curtains2Go are good and it's easy to put in your measurements, and pick your heading type. I chose these cafe au lait velvet curtains with pinch pleats in a rough size for a bedroom window:-

Hi, that's my wallpaper which I have now bought and the paint colour looks light grey in this image. The fabric on those blinds is the same one and it does come in numerous colourways. The one in your picture is in Zest - the one I copied is in Denim, it also comes in honey and ginger. Although I like the zest it wouldn't fit in with the other items I have bought for the room which are based on the blush tones in the wallpaper! I'm wondering now about whether the denim too dark and the honey might look better. What do you think?
