Elevated house - How to improve facade of detached 70's house?
Comments (22)I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps....See MoreKerb appeal for 1960s/70s house?
Comments (5)Thank you, I'll definitely get painting, I'm googling about painting upvc as we speak, seems a bit confusing and not sure whether I'd be better off getting a professional- if they even exist! Maybe I'll just head to homebase tomorrow for some primer and paint and give some DIY a go! We have a bay tree in a more contemporary pot where the planter was now, but I was also thinking of getting some big timber planters for below the two front windows as a way of adding both timber and structured greenery to the Tarmac and brick combo of the front! I wish I could paint the Tarmac, but it's all uneven too so would probably show that up, I'd love to just tear it all up and replace with gravel but I might wish the Tarmac back once I have a pram or high heels!...See MoreHow to improve 70s bungalow exterior??
Comments (11)Hi Edwina, It's going to be the greenery that makes a big difference to this. Plants are used for softening designs all the time both exterior and interior. I love the garage doors and think ever have done a great job too - well done. I love the idea of rendering it but think you have to work with the rest of the road so if no one else has its probably not a great idea :( Regarding the images of changes on the property - I offer a 3D visualisation package that I would be happy to give you a price for if you drop me a person message on the profile page. This will depend on the budget you have as to its worth for you. All the best, Gina...See MoreTransform 70s yellow brick exterior of our house?
Comments (4)That's actually a pretty good 70's exterior to work with as it has good proportions. There is a subtle section of feature stone which breaks up the brick work at the entry. The front windows are balanced and there aren't too many sections which helps keep it from looking dated. The rear windows look a bit like a jigsaw puzzle! So it depends on what you are up for ... If it's possible to paint, you could soften the windows by going into a sage color range over white. If the sectioning in the windows bothers you, you could change the window style whilst at the same time changing frame color, a front door change to a more modern door and side panel might be all you need to give a newer feel to the exterior....See MoreKarenza Roy
