House rendering - what are our options?

Hi Houzz community,

We are in the process of buying our first home and this has been our favourite so far, so we will be looking to make an offer soon. Before committing to buy this house, I was wondering if the community here could help me with the exterior?

There are 4-5 identical houses on the same street, but the opposite side of the street is completely different. I don't want to make the house look completely out of place and I am not hating the exterior, but I am not loving it either.

Do you have any suggestions on how to make it more appealing and modern?

For me it just looks a bit 'dirty' and 'rotten' like it is?

Could we paint it or replace the rendering? Will getting new windows make a difference?

I like the brick, but I’m not keen on the tiles because they do look a little worn and tatty. I’m no expert in any shape or form, but could the tiles be painted to freshen them up? I think I saw a post on here several months ago where someone did just that. I’ll have a peruse and get back to you!

Many of our customers have the same dilemma... how to visualise the space once completed. With our customer Claire we worked for weeks on designs and layouts for the new kitchen/dining room space until we had it right. We planned on knocking down a few walls and opening and brightening the space whilst adding a gorgeous bespoke kitchen across the center connecting the areas and creating a true heart to what will become a beautiful home. The build is currently still going but we wanted to show you a few before's, the finished renders.. and then let you watch the space come together as we do! Enjoy. This is the property when Claire purchased - it was tired, dark and dated. The L shaped room with current door and window positions made it difficult to fit what the client needed in the space and didn't take adventure of the garden and fantastic views. After weeks of planning and looking at different options the design was agreed and the final 3D images were created to show the client exactly how the space would look - leaving her confident in her decisions on everything from layout to colour. Now the fun could begin! The beautiful new stone floor was laid and instantly gave depth with texture and a brighter more modern feel. I'd go mad with some sort of dark olive green and black windows, but it would be a bold choice and definitely not for everyone. We did a dark grey with black windows at the back of our last house and it looked good, though. The top half our Victorian house is pebble dashed and we are restoring the yellow stock brick on the first floor and will be painting the pebble dash something interesting, probably that olive green. That with black windows and dark green front door will look traditional with a contemporary twist. But as I said - far from the normal neutrals!

We went for it - the photo is a little further up the feed before we had the drive done and painted the hanging tiles to match. We get lots of comments from passers by that they love it but i'd still love to get it rendered so they really pop rather that it be so dark.

When you say replace the rendering do you mean tiles? In which case yes replace them.

I would bet that the insulation behind those tiles is non existent.

My son bought a house with tiles on the front, the tiles were taken off, we loaded cavity wall insulation into it and rebuilt it in brick. None of the other houses in the row have the same design as him but his is the only warm house in the street.

If you do replace the tiles you may wish at the same time to replace the windows. it all depends on your budget.
