pls need some advise for my toilet wall colouring
Comments (18)So about that toilet! It is a kit bashed piece. The bowl is old, most likely twenties, the tank new...and the connection to the plumbing is scary! Salvage pieces are available to match the age of your home...but a low flow modern toilet in a style you like would be better? Another issue I see is the strange stand off concrete or mortar bed that elevates the toilet. I suspect that there was a raised floor of some kind in the WC, that the sewer pipe is above the line of the existing floor and needs to be reworked for a new toilet. While he is doing that the plumber can re-route the toilet water supply to the proper place for the toilet you select. Best of luck! Hope your landlord will approve of the change!...See MoreNewbie- need help with lounge feature wall pls!
Comments (3)Re the paint colour I wouldn't recommend white it will be very stark, you need something warmer with possibly a taupe or heather tone, this will work well with your scheme. Re the spot lights, you can go for energy efficient LED's, they come in white or warm white. The warm white give off a warmer light, similar to what we are used to from our traditional light bulbs. The warm whites vary hugely from brand to brand, so view them before buying them. I would recommend a dimmer switch so you can control the amount of light. Not all fittings are suitable for dimming. Re the mirror I wouldn't put gold as you have a chrome fire surround. But burnished metals are perfect. Good luck....See Moreneed colour advise for living room
Comments (3)I recommend you go rug-shopping first and then choose a paint colour afterwards. Persian and Turkish patterned rugs are back (if they ever left?) and I'd look there first. Depending on your budget you might like to search out an old one in good shape. The well-worn look can be very attractive. With your furniture choices, you could add just about any rug. I'd recommend something with a bold design to give your room some character. Here are a couple of inspirational photos. Even though they have white furniture, they show how a patterned carpet can liven up a room beautifully....See MoreColour advise needed
Comments (5)Personally I think it is easiest when you choose a palate of colours that work with each other. To make this work choose three neutrals to start with. Given how this house was previously decorated it suggests Mum prefers warmer colours. So say you like Dulux paint you look at their site and choose a soft white such as white cotton and a warm neutral such as Egyptian cotton and then another such as Jurassic Stone. Then I would use these as a starting point and use them again and again in different rooms adding accents. So for instance in the lounge you might paint the woodwork and coving in White cotton, the walls and ceiling in Egyptian Cotton and then a punch of colour in one wall such as the chimney breast. In the hallway you might use White Cotton and Jurassic Stone (in small spaces it is sometimes better to have a simpler palate to make it feel less cluttered and bigger.) In a bedroom you could paint walls and woodwork in White cotton but paint a wall for contrast. Then I would be thinking about what accent colour to continue throughout- So if Mum likes green the living room accent wall could be a bold colour like Heathland, but you might choose a more restful green in the bedroom such as Crushed Aloe, and something fresher for the Kitchen such as Spring meadow. I would use the same neutrals again and again and paint colour with restraint. Then of course you layer on more colour with soft furnishings and you might also give furniture a fresh lease of life by painting it - this trick also helps tie picture frames into a scheme....See MoreSonia
