Paint colour for kitchen walls
Hello - need to choose a paint colour for my kitchen diner, looking for a mid-century look but worried about disappearing into a vortex of greige! My units are Burbidge Putty, dark bronzey handles/sockets, terrazzo tiles halfway up around all walls and Arenastone Bianco Nuvolo (opaque offwhite with slight brown marbling). I've tried to bring some colour in with the x 3 orange pendant lights and my yellow velvet teak chairs. Should I try and match the cabinet colour or go lighter/darker? thanks

3 years agoMid century colours tend to be quite bold, like your lovely light. I was around then and there was a lot of orange, brown and olive green! I wonder if a simple off white (there are hundreds!) on the walls and then introduce more mid century colours in cushions and artwork, maybe? Also some lovely dining chairs in an olive green velvet (unless you have little ones then I’d go for leather or faux leather!).

Comments (10)As a contrast but to prove the colours work together. We have grey units and cream walls, so yes go for it. I think if you have a darker floor and lighter walls, you'll keep the airy theme. I wouldn't bother with named colour paints from the likes of F&B etc, instead as you want to get the shade right, pick your tile, take the tile and a drawer front to any shop that will mix paint and that offers hundreds of shades and get the pale grey right. Comments (0)I have cream units with dark charcoal work tops and medium oak floor. The tiled splasback is three colours of cream, light and dark grey. I painted the walls in a truffle colour but it's turned out a lilac grey and I hate it. Can anyone help with a colour for the walls please. Comments (14)If those kitchen units are sound it appears they suit the character of the building. It seems a shame to plan on ripping them out. If anything it is the colour of them that is wrong. I would find a tile that I loved and do all the splashback up to the wall cupboards including the cooker back and remove the little upstand from the worksurface too. Get the units professionally repainted to compliment the tiling. Dispense with the roller blind and maybe get a painted wooden venetian then get a large rug to make it all feel more cosy. A bit more than a paint job but a lot less disruptive than a whole new kitchen....See More
