Garden Patio Flooding

Hi looking for advice in what I can put in gaps to prevent any groundwater flooding coming up from below in future ?

I don’t think that approach will solve your problem. You would have a better chance of stopping the flooding if you could first work out where it is coming from.

Sounds like you need to check your drains for cracks, and have somebody look at the soak away. Filling the gaps won’t stop water coming up.

Hi. Looks like a big plot so I can see why you’re struggling for ideas. Could you post more photos of the garden from different angles (You can post extra photos in comments.) Might help to generate some ideas. Where do you currently park your cars? What does perc stand for? With a large space like this I think there’s lots of possibilities. I’m guessing you’ll be getting landscapers in. Did a quick doodle and thought to use both x and y for patio and also a little path to an extra patio. Thought it might be good idea to make the most of both sides of the garden. 🙂

We’ve recently had a second patio laid and despite loving our main sandstone patio, I also wanted something that wouldn’t stain as the new patio has lawn edging on to it (and ferrous sulphate lawn treatment is a nightmare with sandstone). I spent ages looking at the options and ended up going with one of the cheapest - it’s a concrete slab called “Courtyard Paving” in the Old Grey colour, laid in “Oakham” pattern. It’s made by a company called Castcrete and is sold direct through their Stonecraft Paving Centres. The picture below is from their website. We went to our nearest centre to see it in the flesh, and I have to say I was worried that it was quite green. However I was assured that the photo was accurate, and sure enough it is. My landscaper also reported them as being brilliant to lay, and it looks fab! In all honesty, I would happily have had it as our main patio if I had known about them at the time. (And it was much, much cheaper than our main patio!)

Hi there, Is there any reason for the L-shape of the patio? And yes, there are some plants, even climbers that will grow on a north facing wall. I would choose an evergreen species so that you have the wall covered year around. Another thing to consider (although it might be a bit late) is whether you would like to maybe create another seating area in the garden for afternoon sun in addition to this one where you get the morning sun.

Soon after purchasing my house I discovered, near the house, a lot of water under old rotten and disintegrating decking I had just removed. Rather than deal with the problem I surmised that the previous owners had put down the decking hoping the problem would go away. It was remote from the household drains and although I already knew they needed replacing I also knew they couldn’t be responsible. It took a while to work out but it turned out I had a leaking highways drain running right through my garden. Every time it rained a sizeable amount of water from the road spilled into my garden much of it near the footings of my house. Escaping water can cause a whole lot of problems.
