POLL: Yay or nay - open plan kitchens?
Comments (206)We are often approached by clients who are creating an open plan kitchen, dining and living area. To overcome some of the issues we make cabinetry which can hide away the usual clutter found in a busy kitchen. Bi-fold and pocketing doors are great in this instance as ovens and even sinks can be hidden away, making the cabinetry seem more like a piece of furniture than a kitchen. Our clients love being able to change the look of a space in an instance! It is crucial to make sure you choose your appliances carefully, i.e. a quiet dishwasher and a good extractor are of huge benefit here. As long as the space is thoughtfully planned there is no reason that it shouldn't work functional and aesthetically....See MoreI'm lost! Please help with my kitchen.
Comments (544)Hello Amanda, : )) Do you mean in the kitchen? Yes a nice idea. I like flat plate too, but really plain. Well the best way to describe how I feel about certain alterations is to tell you about someone I knew who "did up" her flat to such a degree that she literally took away all that was characterful about it.. Sometimes it's best to leave things as their patina develops over time and results in something quite special. Restoration is one thing but you can also restore the life out of something and thus diminish in certain contexts the value- and so it's good to know when to stop.. So yes, I'm firmly in the camp suggesting leave them, but of course it's entirely your choice. : ))...See MoreExtension kitchen layout wobbles.......can anyone offer advice?
Comments (36)Brilliant things to consider Minnie thank you. Only 4 of us in the house, and we do have a seperate dining room. I only want casual bar stool seating for the kitchen but am struggling with where else to place 4 bar stool. Haven't got the width of room to have them all down the side of island facing the wall of units, plus I really like the sleek look of an island and didn't want to interupt that streamlined look by having seating around one end in an L shape. Can't thing of any other option unless someone can thing of something to consider I'd be very grateful. I had my heart set on a mirror splash back but got put off as people said I would have water marks on it all the time from the sink.....is that everyone's experience of a mirror splashback or might I have made a hasty judgement? I was thinking of a washed light grey oak type flooring or a warm oak flooring but was worried if I went for oak ( this would be my colour preference) that it wouldn't work as I will have nothing else oak in the room. It's a south facing room, sun all day and evening so was thinking of a off white light grey tone on the walls and lots of chrome......again struggling to know how to incorporate that and what to put with it colour/ accent/ decor wise to make it feel comfy and not clinical. I'd love dark coloured glass slider but all windows in house are white so I had discounted it. Minnie thanks a million for taking the time on your bumpy train journey to post, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have your input...See MoreKitchen Reno after years of planning
Comments (775)Thanks lovely. We expected it at some point but for half the amount of flats. it seems nigh on impossible for a council to refuse under Permitted Development Rights, have only found a couple of cases. It means that the flats are way below the Nationally Described Space Standards (which gives minimum square footage etc based on dwelling, occupancy), have little parking and a few have no windows at all whereas a number only have one window into the kitchen/living area. Annoyingly the owner was Chairman of his parish council and sat on the DC planning team and objected to so many developments that affected him or his village..... Rant over, sorry! oh it was the mosaic company, I think they're also called zellige tiles. I'm guessing that's where you got yours too as the colours were numbered and I remembered your black tile number...See MoreRuth House
