Carpets and paints for a north facing bedroom

Looking to redecorate our smallish master bedroom, It’s north facing and quite gloomy.

Thinking some warm neutrals and a feature wall behind bed. Wife is keen on terracotta but I’m not sure... any other suggestions?

Also wondering what carpet colour to match with...

I would look at Jitney or Oxford Stone F&B. I have used both recently. Jitney is darker and can look like a pale terracotta brownish pinky colour. very interesting and hard to define. Oxford Stone is slightly lighter and a really lovely taupey neutral. This is Jitney below and Oxford Stone below that.

Hi, Like your colour choice but possibly the palest of pinks may be worth a consideration. I've had peach for years and it really is a dated look (or am I just sick of the sight of it? Possibly) Lighting is what we do best, but I thought I'd chip in as I've recently been inspired by a lovely colour combination that's on my wish list. You'll find it in our lovely blog article. Hi, Grey may just add to the gloominess and look a tad cold for a bedroom. However If you are pushing towards a grey I'd look at some greige colours or warm greys such as skimming stone, Egyptian cotton, just walnut, etc and use warm bulbs to give a more warmer feeling to the room. The greife colours, albeit with a grey colour, appears slightly warmer with the combined beige tones and warmer greys, well it does what it says, shows up to be more inviting and welcoming. I would recommend using testers, preferably on different walls at various points during the day (or repeated coats on paper which can be moved around) when it's quite gloomy because thats the common weather and see what looks good. Alternatively, I'd look at a green colour as this appears to be warmer or consider painting a neutral and accessorise with warm rich colours such as reds or purples or oranges to add warmth to a cold room. Hi Elena, Our recommendation would be to paint the whole room, including woodwork, in Pure Brilliant White. With one exception, the feature wall - the wall opposite the windows. The feature wall would reflect the light coming in from windows and its colour onto the rest of the room. This would alow for max. brightness while lights on. Worth mentioning is the fact any colour (even whites!) will look darker/different while in north facing room. Good luck! Paintforme

it depends what you mean by grey, the meaning of the word has got a bit lost in paint terms so it's a bit loose. What most people think of as grey is actually a very dull blue (true grey is black plus white and there is virtaully no paint on the market like that). Blue-ish cool greys will look even cooler in a North room so you then need to look at taupe greys (which contain red) such as Skimming Stone or Yellow based greys which can look slightly green. Something like De Nimes by Farrow and Ball is a lovely mid toned blue that would be warmer than a pale blue or pale grey but darker. This however would look cosier if that makes sense. Little Greene do some nice greys such as Slaked Lime (not too cool and quite neutral) and Rolling Fog which is slightly warmer. Hope this helps. It's a minefield!

You could go for a pale terracotta veering almost to a dusky pink, rather than the dark red version? Here’s some ideas, I’m not sure what the paint names are though.

Personally I wouldn't do a feature wall. I would just paint the whole room, it tends to look warmer and more coherent. I would test Oxford Stone first, it really is a lovely colour. I have used it with woodwork in Dimity.

Hi, we've just painted ours using dulux malt chocolate. Looking at the pictures above it looks similar to the F&B colours mentioned. It's a very warming/cosy colour for a north facing bedroom.
