Side/coffee table, Console or cupboard??

Hi all, I'm struggling to find a piece to fit this space which is 100cm wide..
Ideally I think it should be the same height as the seating (thoughts?) which is 72cm height. There's some lighting above and I envisage some kind of artwork above the piece I'm looking for..
Would be great to hear any ideas, UK based..

Need to have the space in context. Can you show us the room then we can see why the sofa or unit are not pushed in a bit?

The sofa is a huge corner sofa so goes from one corner up to this space and then the TV unit is centered between the fireplace and the line from the edge of the sofa..

Is the bit with the seating area an original part of the house or not? If so, the permitted development right is to extend by up to 6m, for a terrace. If that is a new area then i can see why you must stop at 4m. Sadly, unless you are going to go for a bank of tall cupboards to the party wall then i cant see where else the fridge freezer would go as you presumably don't want the oven and hob there either. If it does stay though, why is the opening so large there? Wouldn't' you be better to keep more of the original side wall and have the tall units abutting them? Presently there is an odd little gap there which will be no use to anyone and you will see the side of the units. If the wall stopped a bit further in then you wouldn't have a gap or see the side of the units.

I agree - my first thought was to put the table and chairs in the window. Then you could leave the couch where it is and put a fireplace in where the table was and make a room feature out of it. I would definitely get a bookcase or cupboard of some sort to put your books etc in - if you are looking for the minimalist look. I also would consider changing the curtains if that is an option. With the blond flooring I would consider lighter colours - pale blue, eau de nil or even white to open the room up. We painted our walls white and it looked so much larger.

My first thought is the rug is too small. A nice neutral rug big enough to go under the front feet of the sofas will make the space look larger - it really does work. John Lewis have a lovely range of rugs in natural fibres. If the budget is tight Dunelm are good and very on trend. I rather like footstools instead of coffee tables, lovely for putting your feet up after a hard day! They work really well as coffee tables, but best if you use a tray if serving drinks. Laura Ashley have a great range which I think would look really good in your room. The room looks fab and I love the eclectic mix. Good luck!

Hi. I have to agree and disagree with Jonathan on kitchen layout. Unfortunately, it is a common mistake to leave the layout as the last thing to consider. Your kitchen will be the center of your house, space between the dining area and living room. Your family and friends will spend most of the time rather around the kitchen table, chatting, having a drink, coffee, breakfast (add a lot of more) than around dining table or on the sofa. To properly establish the layout may be the most important choice you will have to make. How you cook, how you will move around the kitchen, how do you prepare meals and hundreds of more questions to be answered. Therefore the position of the fridge, what kind of extractor will you choose (island build in, ceiling extractor or maybe skylift by Faber) can be vital to rest of the works. Nicely pointed by Jonathan the position of the soil stack, another very important for layout and positioning of the sink. All those may be easily resolved if you ask for help professional designer who spends with your family couple of hours and helps you to make correct choices. I’m a great fan of side tables. You need somewhere to put a cuppa! I recently bought a couple from Wayfair, they have a huge selection and very good customer service. I bought oak ones but brass and glass are very popular at the moment. You could also move one of the lamps onto it, if you want. i think some art on the wall either side of the window would look lovely too. Here’s some ideas of side tables. I think just below the arm of the sofa would be more comfortable.

Nice room, I’m not sure I’d put another piece of furniture so close to the tv cabinet.

I’d go for a large plant and then add a drinks table that can be tucked under the sofa. A plug in wall light over the corner of the sofa may look good with art but do you have a light there already?
