White fence..did we make a mistake? Help!!!
Comments (8)Wow thank you so so much! This is beyond helpful! I think I will be able to sleep tonight (last two nights were just crazy-can't stop blaming myself for ruining our fence!) :) Appreciate the design pictures too! Love the idea of mix of the various flowers with trees, but I think we will need to paint all of the fence white now, as it will look unfinished?! The right side of the garden is south facing, so fence is faded brown (golden) and we have a shed there. Planning to buy another one and paint them in grey or so..to match the theme and make this garden cute! Our left fence is north facing, so it is still quite dark..so we need to make all of them match perhaps and then plant shady plants on the left, mix at the back and sun lovers to the right. Great idea with the oval shape! Need to think about the bloody slope.. it starts approx 1.5m from the back fence and slopes by approx 0.5m, so not too bad..but I hope the ground wont slide and plants will be able to grow there, otherwise I'm gonna be devastated. I will keep you posted as soon as we make some progress!...See MoreWhat colour should I paint my front door and garage - 1930s House
Comments (43)I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad....See MorePaint colour for veranda & fencing?
Comments (43)@Sonia Yes! Called Bluebell on the can - it was a choice between that or cream. Not much variety available at the moment. I'm not sure if I'll use the same colour on the other door - it depends what state it's in after I sand it down. I had to fit a new sill, paint it at least three times with Sadolin (which takes 24 hours to dry per coat), find hardwood to replace the rotten wood , fit it, etc. It has been a marathon job. The inside is now white satinwood to match the paintwork in the kitchen. I still need to find and paint and fit a new riser, do something for the dog flap, fit the draught excluder and weather stripping, and seal the whole thing....See MoreHelp need on what colours to paint fence
Comments (5)If you are set on painting then go with a contrasting colour to the paving, a darker tone of grey for the horizontal slats. As for paint I would choose the Valspa decking paint from B&Q as this is much better wearing and seems to have a better coverage than fencing paints. Also this being designed for decks it does not need as much repainting as fence paint and to some degree be washed down. As for the fence around the lawn area it depends if you are planting around the borders or not. Whatever you do there the fence will go green under the overhanging foliage and will need to be cleaned on a regular basis. If it was me I would be tempted to leave it to weather naturally as once you start painting a fence, you will always be painting it to keep it looking good....See Morecolourhappy
