Urgent design help please!!

The builders started digging Monday and I’m thinking of completely changing the look. It’s a kitchen/dining/living space with sliders one side, big windows another side and glass doors adjoining another family room. At the moment we’re getting quotes for aluminium Sliders, and crittal look windows and internal doors (see pic one). I’m worried they’ll be too heavy for the space (approx 5.5m square).
I’m thinking of changing the windows to sash, the internal doors to french doors, but then;
1.what would I have instead of the sliders??

Would a contemporary roof light look out of place??
I’ve attached pics of the current mood board, then pics of styles I’m considering changing to. I haven’t got much time to decide so any help would be appreciated!!!!

I think changing to french windows is a good move, I don't think you need to change to sash but its up to you, instead of sliders perhaps you could get slider like the crital windows with glazzing bars to match the sash/crital windows at the side?

As Minnie says, not a fan of chalk paint on furniture, it has it's places, but for a washable surface with kids around it's a big No No. It has to be sealed and then it doesn't look like chalk paint anymore - and, quite frankly it's a load of old B*** that it sticks to almost any surface - almost being the operative word there. You can paint ikea units. Scratch the surface with a fine grade sandpaper 120 grit....then use a good quality water based primer - we use dulux. ( one coat should be enough with dulux ) Then buy a waterbased satinwood paint - also our preference is Dulux Diamond Trade..............you can pick your colour off any of their colour cards. You have great flat surfaces, so if it were me i'd roller the top coat on with small gloss rollers. You may need to do more than two coats but it will give a better finish than using a brush. Don't over load the roller, don't worry too much about the small air bubbles, they flatten out when it dries and kind of gel together. x

Hi. I think any dark, rich colour could work well (would paint the skirts in the wall colour) but if you didn't want to paint the furniture either a really deep teal or inky blue would work well. Perhaps use ochre or burnt orange as accent colours or moss or emerald/grass green work really well with an inky blue. I assume the ceilings aren't tanked so you'll need a ceiling fix pole? Having floor to ceiling curtains will make it feel taller. I'd also have a tall portrait leaner mirror on the wall opposite the window to make it feel taller and to bounce light (do you know where the stud work is for attaching things to walls?) Could you have a light weight canvas hung on the chimney breast attached with those sticky pads? Agree re lighting and would also add 1/2 floor lamps. Is an electric stove in budget for the chimney? My only reservation is dark walls against a white ceiling. I think my basement is the same height and I deliberated for ages and in the end painted it all white :) there is an argument that dark ceilings can create depth as you can't see where they end.. also an argument re white gloss or Matt finish for the ceilings! If you did go for dark walls though i might consider a mid shade for the ceiling

I do have several comments/suggestions for you. It is worth planning where your table is going and lighting appropriately. If this is your main dining area, or you plan to entertain you will definitely want to be able to dim the lights. I'm not sure how serious a cook you are, but you might prefer to have spotlights over the island for task lighting and pendants over the table. Height of the lights and bulb brightness would affect this decision. Speaking totally as a layperson, it looks like you would need some lighting between the island and the right hand side of the room. LED spotlights do not light laterally as far as you think they might and you could end up with a dull area. Finally, you will be asked if you want warm or white spotlights, so be sure you know how your choice will affect the colour of things like the floor and cupboard surfaces. Those tiles are stunning. Now I know you’ve got the paint, but I would have gone paler, simply because the tiles are so beautiful and I wouldn’t want to have anything that detracts from them. if It is too dark, you could always add some of the green to plain white paint and mix well. Make sure you mix enough for the whole area! I’ve done that before and it worked out well. Good luck!

Thank you! I’m really struggling with it as love the crittal style internal doors but worried it’ll be a bit prison like with the windows too. Do you think french doors to the family room, the windows in the picture and two pane sliders would work? Or a bit too mix and matchy? Room sketcher is my rabbit hole 🤦🏻‍♀️

Not sure, I'd be inclined to have the sliders harmonise with the side windows or compleatly breat with them, you could go for french windows and classic sashes with sliders.
