Dual fuel hob or Gas+induction hob

Hi,

I am doing some research for my future kitchen.

I would like to have a gas hob, however, sometimes I prefer to have an induction hob. I love cooking and I want to benefit from both types of hobs.

So I started thinking about a dual fuel hob. Unfortunately, the market is very small for this kind of product.

So I am just trying to figure out if it is possible to install 2 burner gas hobs and 2 zone induction hobs close to each other?

Is it allowed by regulations?

I also wonder if it is ok to cut 2 separate holes in a quartz worktop to place these hobs or worktop between the holes might brake?

What do you think about it?

Hi Anastassia, Yes it is perfectly fine to combine a gas hob with an induction. If you search Domino hobs you'll find some, Neff and Miele do some nice ones.

Also it's fine to cut two hole for the hobs in your quartz, though there should be about 60mm minimum of stone between. You can with some models get joining/connecting strips, so therefore just cutting one hole, depending on the look you want.

I can give you the opinion on clearance reduction as most US codes and testing agencies see it. http://publicecodes.cyberregs.com/icod/irc/2012/icod_irc_2012_24_sec007.htm The short story is that a 1" air gap is required behind the heat shield, and something more substantial than foil. TABLE G2409.2 (308.2) REDUCTION OF CLEARANCES WITH SPECIFIED FORMS OF PROTECTION Should give you a good idea of what "should" be an acceptable means of reducing clearance. Think of it as a double boiler system. If you put a pan directly on the heat, you can burn things very easily. But, if you put one pan inside another with boiling water, then it keeps things from getting too hot.

Hi OnePlan and Simon Here are a couple of pictures to show the 3 different levels of Bora hobs: This is the Bora Basic, which is approximately 800 mm wide and combines the induction hob and extraction in the middle. The motor is effectively bolted onto the bottom of the hob and takes up the top drawer space underneath. Can be vented or recirculated. Starting retail price £2,700 including VAT. This one is the Bora Classic system, which is a modular system so the customer can build the suite of hobs they want from full surface induction to gas to induction wok to Tepan. This is the Bora Professional series which is modular as well. Each unit is slightly bigger and the controls are separate big stainless steel knobs that fit on the panel underneath. Both the Classic and Professional series have separate motors that sit on the floor behind the plinth, again vented or recirculating. I could bore you with the whole history of the product and how it came about, but simply its a range of hobs from Germany that has without question been designed to do the job properly and I believe they are so good that we would rather sell a Bora system than any other hob and extractor combination you could possible think of. Hi just had a quick look at this, not too sure where you are located though? If you are in the UK then how about something like this one: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/cooking/cookers/rangemaster-classic-deluxe-110-dual-fuel-range-cooker-black-chrome-21479066-pdt.html This has gas hobs and an electric ceramic hob as well so maybe this might help? There are other ones as well, if you go to range cookers and then filter them by hob type to be dual fuel then this should give you what you are looking for. Hope this helps!

Hi Jay, thanks for adding the zoomed in plan ! I know the question was about colours - so here's my two penny's worth ... I think if you like grey - then paint the walls grey - and have white cabinetry - and tops - then if you prefer green/pink/blue etc in future years you can very easily update ! I can see you have put in a lot of thought to your layout - I'm just offering a little tweaking to maybe link both areas a little better and give you a focal point on entry ( the hob and a smart hood ) and allow you to keep all your pantry food and fridge food closer together for ease of deciding what to cook - seeing your supplies and making shopping lists etc - the end of the island is a perfect place to dump the shopping bags to then decant into fridge or pantry there's plenty of prep space around the hob etc. I have stolen a small bit of pantry to allow a sliding divider to close off the nook - just incase you want a quiet zone - or to shut away kids toys etc etc I know the question was about colours not layout - so please feel free to ignore my suggestions !! AEG have an induction hob that has a large gas wok burner, smeg have a model with 2 gas and 2 induction rings, whirlpool also have a gas/induction hob just google gas/induction hobs
