living room total refurb - help.

hi all. I'm looking to overhaul our living room and have started by lifting the original wood floors as there was no insulation. I have also removed the fire place. the room has east and west facing windows. the west facing one is close to the ground and has a view of our enclosed garden.
I'm planning on widening the opening for the fireplace to put in a stove (like the one in this picture.)
other than this I have no ideas of how i want the room to look. Should I go for built in shelving at either side of the fireplace?
anyway open to suggestions of how to move forward and how to start planning.

The peacock wallpaper inspired design was a full room design for a client.

The updated living room design was to help the client on whether to install a wall between their lounge and family room, but showcases a fireplace wall. (Please ignore the colours - these were purely placeholders to show the layout) This client, like you, wanted an electric woodburner.

thanks Vicky. I didn't really want to put in a false wall. The dimensions of the room are 15ft 10 (window to window) and 10ft 9 from the door to the fireplace wall. I'm hoping for some inspiration for the windows too if any ideas?

Hi Philipa, That is a great fireplace! You would definitely have to remove the current tiles but I would personally keep the hearth and surround and re-tile it all the same. You could even do the whole height in the same tiles like this: I am also obsessed with your floors they are so beautiful I would just leave them like that or maybe paint them a chalky white. Or depending on how daring you are feeling you could paint your floors in a fun pattern like this: Hope that helps and do show us the results! Hutsly

Having had another look at roof lanterns, we've decided we prefer the look of flat glass windows. Just a personal preference that it's nice to have something with a clear view of the sky and no frame. Love the look of your kitchen Jayne Forrest so thanks for sharing. I have a probably unpopular suggestion... unless you're happy with an end design.. could you either do it in stages (I appreciate living in a building site is Never ideal) So knock out the chimneys and open up the space, but not pull out the kitchen etc. Give you a bit of time to see the space and be able to move your sofa/dining table around to try and work out what would work best in reality? Or postpone the project slightly to give yourselves the time to finalise a layout you're truly happy with +/- using OnePlan? I agree tho, realistically with that layout its stools or the sofa! Also I wondered whether the outside store space off the lean to, could be made accessible from the hallway? And then could that be the utility cupboard? Then you could use that bottom bit in your kitchen for tall units/larder cupboard/pantry/FF etc

What sort of things do you own and what do you like? I absolutely love the low window and if it was mine I would build out a full width false wall the height if the windowsill to give a double depth sill to put ceramics, plants etc and maybe a lamp either side. It all depends on what you like, I'm a collector of pots so I always see an opportunity to display them ( ;

I would really love to make the low window into a window seat. this will be our "good room" for the adults to relax in at the weekend etc. so we need a TV, nice lighting, comfy but stylish sofas and not much else, some artwork for the walls, limited space for some personal things.
