1. I have had the lamp for a few years and have a broken Opel glass shade.

2. What is the size of the shade?

3. Can you supply me with new shades?

4. What Price?

5. I live in Norwich Norfolk, is there anywhere local that I can buy new shades?

So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!

I really love your room - exciting shapes. You only need one thing to kick-start your imagination. Lose the animal skin and choose one large beautiful multi coloured rug (could be very modern, ethnic, or even antique) to reflect the sofa colours and add cushions to echo the rug colours. This will bring the sofas together and unify the lost space between them. Then the rest will follow naturally; e,g, art, ornaments coffee tables lamps etc;. You might like to think about a radiator cover that stretched across the whole of that wall with a shelf on top and VERY large flat louvres across the entire width. This will make that wall appear to be wider and the full width louvres will accentuate that feel. Above, on the shelf sit lovely modern vases, glass ornaments etc; above that a large stunning piece of art. Good luck - you are lucky to have such an interesting starting point.

Hello All. Happy New Year!! We have been busy decorating our guest room and am now into the finishing touches. Would welcome your suggestions to make it look stylish and give it the wow factor. We saw some wallpaper from another post on here that looked great. It is from B&Q (excellent quality) and had birds on it - I've put some photos below. We wallpapered our feature wall and painted the rest of the walls in Laura Ashley Pale Silver (it sometimes looks grey and sometimes lilac) but we love the colour. We also re-did the IKEA wardrobe by putting some of the wall paper in the panels to tie in the scheme. We need to get some new curtains. Does anyone have any ideas on what to go for? Also we have some things to put up on the wall. We want to put a mirror in the room (not sure on the one we have) as well as the photo frames from IKEA although I think I'm going to change the photos in them. Finally we have a shelving unit that we have painted Annie Sloan Off White. Where would you guys think would look best? I was thinking perhaps the photo frame collection above the chair and table and then the shelving unit on the grey wall by the bed and the mirror closest to the walk-in cupboard? Finally the chair and table need a new coat of paint. Anybody got any ideas on what to paint in? Was thinking perhaps a light pink? Would welcome anybody's ideas and suggestions and I will post finished photos once everything is completed.

The biggest problem with this question is that it's all so deeply subjective. That said, I used to live in an ex-council maisonette in London, and the way I dealt with it was painting all of the walls in bright colours. I had turquoise in the sitting room, yellow hallway and stairs, a pink bedroom, a lime green loo... but I tied it all together by painting the skirting boards and coving throughout the property in bright matt white. The skirting and coving was very simple and had been put in retrospectively (albeit not by me) - in fact I think the coving was made of some sort of polystyrene, so I imagine it was incredibly cheap, although it didn't look it - and I think it made a huge difference. So I'd certainly consider adding that, as it makes the room look more "finished" instead of the cheap standard that council flats usually aim for. For me, this was transformative. As I say - it's so subjective. But although it's undeniably a faff to paint a room, remember that it's also cheaper than buying new furniture, and easier to replace and start again! For what it's worth, I now rent out that flat and recently had it painted in a neutral off-white colour, with new grey carpets. It looks smart, but not nearly so characterful as it previously did. Like I say: subjective. But the important thing, to me, is walking into a place and it immediately feeling like home. Be brave and paint those walls ;)
