I'd start by finding out if the foundations for the ground floor extension will support another storey, or you could build our further.

Hi Denise I have just ordered shutters for my house for all the front windows which is costing around £1000 and roughly 8 or 9 square metres I'd estimate. However this is for DIY install shutters from the California Shutter company who have been recommended by a friend who uses them regularly, they aren't arriving until first week of December so I can't vouch how easy they are to fit yet!. They're prices start at £125 sqm in the sale at the moment. http://www.californiashutters.co.uk/ Take a look at Nina Campbell's Pagoda Garden fabric it's similar to your original accent fabric in the photo, although I don't have a sample to hand just now. It looks as though it has the stronger bluer tone you need to stand up to your walls. http://shop.ninacampbell.com/nina-campbell-fabric/autumn-2006/pagoda-garden.html I recommend a sample of a velvet or woven chenille for your footstool such as Osborne and Little's Peregrina F6350-07 or Canaletto F6142-10. These are contract fabrics suitable for upholstery which I can supply. Also Osborne and Little's domestic fabric Brehon Linens in F6520-20 is really gorgeous with lots of blue tones in which I feel would complement your scheme. Finally Sabi Addo F6272-08 is a really luxey light reflecting velvet and Rondelle Takarshi pictured here: http://www.osborneandlittle.com/products-and-collections/fabric/autumn2012/rondelle/tarkashi?id=2c149a3fd57045fd971eb480ac6a2b06 is a beautiful cut velvet for amazing cushions or throws if you are looking for that extra wow factor! They'll never go out of style Tom - NEVER!! Haha! A10) Ohhh I love eclectic style, Maxine, and yes, I mix styles all the time in my own home! I will say, for as easy as it sounds to just throw everything you love into a space, it’s actually one of the hardest looks to do really well – that’s not to discourage you of course because when it all comes together, it’s incredibly satisfying! While it may be tempting to just include everything you like from all different styles together in one space, the resulting feeling will be one of over-stimulation and confusion. So the secret of this seamless integration requires creativity and some self-imposed boundaries. Sticking with a structured colour palette will give the room cohesiveness without making the room flat and uninteresting. Start with a neutral base for your larger pieces, your paint colours and/or your flooring as a means of grounding the space. Pay attention to how pieces relate to one another and how they relate to the room as a whole. One oversized piece is absolutely fine but 3 or 4 will make the room look cluttered and uncomfortable. Despite using mid-century hoop chairs alongside a more traditional chesterfield in my own living room, the backs of the chairs are of similar height to the low-lying sofa back. There is continuity of the eyeline and nothing jars too dramatically. You also want to ensure that when borrowing from different eras, you mix and match throughout the space – having a mid-century console table with art of the same era hanging above it and then a Victorian style fireplace with an ornate mirror in a different part of the room is going to look ‘off’. Take that artwork and hang it above the fireplace instead and perhaps use the more ornate mirror above the console table instead! Hope that helps!

I posted a comment but it seems to have disappeared so apologies if it now appears twice! Painting some of the furniture would be a great idea however it's a mammoth task so for the moment, I would just concentrate on accessories. I's a nice sized room - do you know what direction it's facing? I'm wondering also whether it's abroad rather than in the UK as it's unusual to have such dark furniture, very high ceilings and a shiny tiled floor - plus you've added an air conditioning unit over the window? Or is my amateur detective work sending me barking up the wrong tree! Anyway, I also agree with a previous comment that a modern colonial style would be lovely. To avoid making costly mistakes, get some colourful offcuts of material or some colourful clothes that you may already have in your wardrobe. Lay them individually ion the bed at different times of the day, take photos and see which ones work best for you. Likewise buy different coloured flowers, pop them on your bedside table and again see which work best. Once you've decided on your favourite colour, you can then buy your accessories. Get a couple of lamps, a colourful throw for the bed and definitely a rug to warm up the shiny but rather cold floor. Splash out on some greenery to add some warmth and maybe a large potted plant to break up the wall. Mirrors would also work well. Personally I would have painted the walls a warm white rather than grey but the right accessories and pictures will soon brighten it up. Also, is the room overlooked as I'm wondering about the net curtains - if you get rid of them, you'll be amazed how much light will come flooding in. If you have a balcony outside, you could get some fab plants which will add shade, privacy and colour to the room. Good luck and have fun!
