Levelling floor after taking tiles up

Hello everyone. I’m taking up a ceramic tiled floor and the cement/adhesive is left underneath it. Do I have to get rid of all of it before the floor can be levelled? There’ a lot to do..... thanks for any advice.

Yes the adhesive has to also be removed otherwise the finished floor level could be too high

We have a ground floor extension ( done by previous owners). The extension floor is concrete and original building wooden floorboards. Where the 2 meet there is a ridge of about 30 cm width. The concrete floor is about 2-3 cm below floorboards. Clearly the job was not done well. We cannot bring up level of concrete to meet floorboards without this affecting the join to ceramic tiles in the kitchen. It's not very obvious from photograph but there is a distinct ridge. Don't want to lay new carpet without resolving this problem. Any suggestions?

My builder boarded the whole floor with floor grade chipboard and then tiled on top. It’s done the trick. I’m not sure insulating boarding is rigid enough to prevent cracking? Remember my previous tiler said paving over boards is okay with a grid and flexible grout but he was wrong! May I suggest, if you want to of course, you start a new advice question asking if tiling over insulation tiles is okay? There are several people on here with the right skills to advise you more than I can. Sorry to cause you more hassle but better to get the right info before it’s too late.

Cut the tiles at each doorway and fit threshold strips, then just remove the tiles in the one room. You'll need some form of threshold if your putting a new floor down as it will be at a different height to the rest of the house.

Slate roof tiles placed against wall below ground level

Not really sure what the best title was for this! Roughly 50 years ago a porch was added to the front of our property and a small walled flower bed created on either side. The flower bed is above the original exterior ground level (but not higher than the current internal floor lever) and old slate roof tiles have been placed against the wall the wall to try and prevent damp? I only discovered them after digging out the flower bed to lay a drainpipe as the porch gutter pipe just emptied into the flower bed and soaked away. I also discovered lots of damage to the pointing (property is 200 years old) behind the tiles which I'm about to start re-pointing. What I really want to know is, shall I replace the tiles or is there a better alternative now?

Hi there. When self levelling. Try and use a good fibre flow self levelling screed. Weber do a really good one. Will eliminate cracking
