Comments (10)Goodie on the lamps! Don't get me wrong, I love a mirrored table, I just don't think it is doing all it can in that spot. They are great in a bedroom and also in a dark corner in a living room. I'm sure you can find the perfect place to show it off. I don't usually like radiator covers either, but sometimes, and in the right material, they can work well. Go with a shelf mounted above it if you are unsure, but because your front door (more on that later) has those wonderful vertical lines in it, you could have a radiator cover with the same long slats. I think your door is great - it has strong but simple features, that I thought fit with your clean line aesthetic, while letting in light. I may be against the grain here, but unless your house is incredibly drafty and it is a 16th Century cottage or a French chateau, I wouldn't dream of having a curtain across a door. Call me crazy, but our last house was a wonky Victorian with a beautiful, enormous front door with stained glass in it and around it and the wind used to come in so strong around the edges that I felt like I was in the Arctic Circle, but there wasn't a chance I was going to cover up such a beautiful piece of architecture. Yeah, that is a bit crazy.... You could paint it in a cream to match the rest of the house, but make the other changes to the entrance hall first, live with it for a while (next year, as you say) and then see if you still want to paint it. I'll go and look for something for the floor now while other people tell you I'm wrong on the door curtain idea!...See MoreHelp me design my main bedroom please
Comments (7)I would paint your bed and ivory with a glaze over it ,then it would use texture and layer neutral sheets blankets and pillows since the room is so small ,hang curtains as high as you can and as far out from the window frame as you can to make the window look larger and taller. if you lighten up the bed with paint as suggested the room will look bigger as well ,then you can use side tables in mirror finish for some drama or round with a cloth top even ...with the room being small I would stay neutral and you bedside lamp shade needs to be at a hight that you can lay in bed and read under. The light.too small of a lamp will make them seem out of place ...try a textured soft larger neutral rug under your bed ,larger is better...See MorePlease help me with kitchen plan!
Comments (40)Hi. I mean the wall with the utility door. I see where you are going with the symmetry for the wall with the aga, but I would make that tall end unit a pantry or place for serving plates, etc. and have the integrated fridge where you currently have the wood upper cabinet. I've been looking at your Ideabook and reading the aga discussion (I'm way behind minnie!) and I see what you are trying to achieve. But none of them have the same layout. When the feature aga corbel wall exists, it doesn't have an induction hob right next to it or it doesn't have a solid wall at the end (one of them is amazing with their deep cupboards either side but there is nowhere to put anything!). Do you have roof lights over the kitchen? Unless you have a giant lantern skylight and lots of under-cabinet lighting planned, please don't have black countertops. Apart from the fact that none of the kitchens in your Ideabook have dark counters, I come from a place of experience. I used to have a massive, terribly planned, kitchen with lovely black granite counters. Not only could only one person work in it even though it was the size of a dance floor, but the lights had to be on all the time and it was really depressing. And as there will be a dining table nearby to take in your beautiful garden, the island perches will be there to keep the cook(s) company, so facing in on the kitchen is perfect....See MoreMicrowave to fit Howdens wall unit
Comments (46)Adding a new comment to this thread, as I spend days of my life trying to find an integrated microwave that would fit a Howdens 290mm deep wall unit. This was the main thread on Google for info on this problem. I don't want anyway else to waste their life in the same way, so here's what you need to know: -The Howdens 290mm wall unit only officially houses the Lamona integrated microwave, which is 320mm deep. The middle of the Lamona microwave sticks out about 2cm from the wall unit. It looks.. a bit ugly. -HOWEVER, it is possible to get a third party shallow (300mm depth or so) microwave that does fit. -The current model I found that fits the standard Howdens slot is the NEFF HLAWD23N0B_BK. By the time you read this they might have updated the range with a new model number. It's the shallowest integrated microwave they do. -Officially the NEFF needs 320mm depth BUT just ask your electrician and kitchen installer to cut a slot for the power cable to run through the back wall of the unit to the power supply in a separate bit of the units. (We put the power switch in the cupboard above it) -The front of the microwave is about 1mm proud of the units but you wouldn't know it wasn't supposed to fit if you hadn't obsessed over it.
