adding an extension to a kitchen island

I am moving to a new house with a central kitchen island which doesn’t have an “overhang” to allow some stools to be placed under it. I can’t afford to replace the whole kitchen island worktop
and wonder if a shelf with brackets the same width as the island might do the same job? In the same sort of finish as the existing worktop or even a contrasting finish. I just wonder how I could securely attach them to the worktop. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you got any pictures ? A lot of it would depend what is below the island (cupboards, appliances etc ?)

Here you go. There are appliances inside (dishwasher and washing machine so I guess the screws can’t be too long)

We recently bought a small 1916 apartment in the Netherlands (67m2 + 10m2 basement) and are adding a 3.3x3.3m* extension at the garden end. Also, we are breaking down the load-bearing wall in the kitchen and making a few other changes in the floor plan to make space for a decent bathroom :) Since I’m very concerned about feeling cramped after a while, I was hoping to get some advice on where to put the kitchen and whether or not a kitchen island is a good idea (Although I really want a kitchen island!). I keep hearing that I should leave the kitchen where it is, but I still want to explore my options. Option #1: Open kitchen with kitchen island in main area + sunken living room in the extension as pictured in the new floor plan Option #2: Open kitchen with a long horizontally-placed dining table (no kitchen island) + sunken living room in the extension. Option #3: Spacious living room with narrow dining table on the right side + kitchen with kitchen island in the extension. Option #4: Spacious living room + kitchen with round or oval dining table in the extension (no kitchen island). Option #5: ? *Note that the length of the extensions can be max 4m, but we prefer not to as we do not want to block too much sunlight from our neighbors.

Saying all of that ... if it's darker tiles that's in your head, maybe just go for it, as it's opinion at the end of the day and we're all different. Obviously we work alot with colours, but if a client wants certain colours, we work with them to make their perfect design. Just try as dark as you want, but maybe just step it lighter one level.

i would say the best idea would be to get rid of the wall between the dining and breakfast area and all external wall too including the side of the existing kitchen area. after that extend a kitchen out to Square and start everything from scratch. you could put any stud/dividing walls then anywhere around. For cost saving make sure the toilet utility and kitchen area located on a same side of a building close to any existing sewyer pipe so at least a drainage works and cost of it would be as low as possible. by the look of it we talking about a box frame to be installed along the line of the existing external wall and one steel off of the box from to get rid of the wall across in between the breakfast and dining area. that would create you the most clear space as possible and have a possibility to move things around as how you wishing. i hope it would helps

Since few people have a big budget for renovation when they first move you may want to have a plan that can be completed in stages. This idea puts on a small side extension where the current lean to is now and by knocking the former kitchen through to the side and the dining room you have plenty of space for a good kitchen dining space the extra sitting area, utility and shower room can be adding in order of priority depending on available money.

Tricky one...is the original worktop wood ?....cant tell from pic. I'm guessing you would have to use a strong angled bracket that runs along the whole length and then a supporting pole.

If you just want somewhere to sit for a short while could you sit where the bins are and put bins elsewhere (maybe in a cupboard?)
