Nice things for the new kitchen

Our new kitchen is nearly(ish) finished so now were thinking about some of the practical things we need:
3 breakfast bar stools/chairs (most are sold in pairs)
Kettle (we drink a lot of tea so this is important)
Knife block (had a Stellar one for years but the handles have worn out)
Induction hob saucepans
Chopping board (our bamboo one doesn't go)
Washing up bowl and drainer (to go with our brushed stainless steel sink)
Our new kitchen is white walls, matt grey cabinets and black appliances.
I'm just going round and round in circles looking at stuff online and even when the shops open I'm not that keen on visiting them.
Any suggestions or ideas about where/what to buy and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

Please post a couple of photos of the kitchen, so we can see your style :-) Easier for us to visualise what kind of stools and other items will work

Pics would be good as suggested. Also, you say colours black/white/grey. Are you looking to introduce any colour or texture to warm it up eg wood? What is on the floor. Most stools come single when I was looking a year ago. What type stools, backless, adjustable or fixed height?

I;d get a lighting specialist on the case. It seems a shame to go to the expense of having ceilings lowered, when high ceilings are such a great period feature. They also allow for some of the amazing pendants, which others can't have due to the lack of height. If lighting is an issue for you, i'd solve that before embarking on the expense of lowering the ceilings and explore all options available for different areas first.

Presumably if you detest sinks and stoves in the island you don't mind guests talking to your back? Personally I have found it works brilliantly I can prep cook and chat all at the same time and don't feel at all left out, the beauty of an island is people can circulate around it and you, more likely to top your drink up as well if they can see you. I think the perfect combo is a hob and prep sink in the island and large messy stuff sink and built in ovens within the perimeter cupboards. Once the wall is down you have a large area with many options, have you tried any kitchen designers to see what they come up with? Try several, you may get enough ideas to mix and match and choose from.

I concur with Ed, you're better off with a builder who will organise everything for you as he goes. But, generally, you :- Need to know where the plumbing and drainage work is going, Then you build your shell up ( the steel / the window work ) Then first fix plumbing and electrics, ( know where every light, lightswitch, socket cover and tap is going. Do the floor Put the kitchen in Finish the plumbing ( taps ) / Electrics (socket covers, lights ) Basically, you need to know down to the last light switch what is going where, plan for it meticulously, and you shouldn't go wrong! Are you likely to extend in the next few years and therefore want a cheap solution “for now”? Or are you unlikely to extend in the foreseeable future so want a permanent better solution (more expensive than a temporary fix but not as much as a new extension)? For a cheapish “for now” solution I would suggest putting a fridge where there currently is a storage console table in the pictures - ie next to the (?) coat rack. You probably have space to put some extra kitchen storage around it too. That way it‘s a bit more accessible than in the utility, and you can have a dryer and more space in the utility. Is that your dining table, or the previous owners? It’s pretty giant and swapping to a smaller table would give you more space to put in a dresser or sideboard or other storage somewhere near it. Or even a built in wall of storage across the wall with the sitting room (if you don’t mind blocking the internal window). For a more permanent solution, I would agree with the suggestion of moving the whole kitchen to the other side of the room. You could have an L shape kitchen along the sitting room wall and side wall, with an island. Much more kitchen than currently. Then I’d probably put the dining table in the middle of the room and make the ex-kitchen area into a snug with small sofa. I‘m not suggesting any changes to the utility purely because from the plan it looks as though it’s got some serious supporting walls around it (perhaps the original end wall of the house) so it will be very expensive to change it. If I’m wrong about that, however, it could make sense to knock through into the utility to buy yourself more kitchen space, and then carve a new utility off the back end of the very large study.

Flooring is a grey oak laminate. No other colour to be added, the splashback will be white sparkly (nicer than it sounds). I think i'd prefer stools with backs and probably adjustable as OH taller than daughter and I

I recently bought a single stool from Dunelm. I usually get my kitchen stuff from my local independent kitchen/hardware store - they sell everything! Other than that I shop at Dunelm, Wilkos and John Lewis. I also like Etsy for wooden shelving etc. Depends what your budget is? Here’s a few things from Dunelm.

Confused, is that kitchen being replaced then? Is layout staying same as it looks like the stools would tight to get in/out of.

Ellie, no this is the new (not yet finished) kitchen. There is plenty of room for the stools, I think it's just the angle of the pic.

We picked up a couple of breakfast bar stools with lifts off eBay. Can’t remember what we paid a couple of years ago but they were described as open, unused, display items. They were an absolute bargain and nothing wrong with them.

At the risk of being shot down we tell all our customers not to use a bowl in the sink. They do scratch the sink.

Is it too late to consider a boiling water tap? I’ve just had a Qettle. Absolutely brilliant especially if you drink a lot of tea or coffee.

If you're into teas/coffees, I'd recommend the sage kettle as it has different temperature settings for different teas/coffee. Echoing Daisy England, a boiling water tap is a game changer if you are able to. Reduces worktop clutter and very efficient.

I got my induction hob saucepans (stainless steel) from Ikea. They also have a good range of chopping boards. Lakeland is another good place to look.

Check out garden trading company online and white lighthouse furniture online. Lots of accessories.
