Do we need extractor fan for each hob

Hi,We are planning to have 2 hobs one in island and one on normal worktop.

Do we need extractor for each hob or one is enough for both of them .

Any advice pls,

Yes you need two.

Wouldn’t it be easier for cooking if they were together or you had one big hob?

Technically, no you don’t actually - you can have an extractor elsewhere in the room - as long as it extracts 60litres per second ( for a uk property)

We moved our entire kitchen into the former dining room (after knocking through). For us the focus was getting the most functional space and the extra cost was worth it. I spend a lot of time cooking and the tiny 30s kitchen didn't work for me. Our range cooker went in the chimney breast with the extractor ducted out behind our larder unit. The boiler went to the loft and the washing machine to a new utility. I'd always spend money on getting the layout right and save elsewhere (we reused all our appliances except the range cooker which came off eBay)

We have a Novy Pure’line built into the ceiling above our island hob in our open plan room and are happy with it. It‘s powerful but also quiet. Also a very discreet design. Westin Stratus was another contender which may be more well known in the UK - Westin are very helpful on the phone if you have queries. If you have a limited ceiling void (eg in an original period building rather than an extension) you may need the Westin Stratus Compact. We do have an electric opening skylight right behind the extractor fan which we use if frying something particularly smelly or smoky - would that be an option?

extraction comes under part F of building regs, so your architect should be detailing this in the plans for the extension. As i understand part F the important bit is Part F When inserting or removing an internal wall, care should be taken not to make ventilation worse. Any new kitchen, a toilet with no openable window; a bath/shower room or utility room should be provided with a mechanical extract fan. The type of room will determine how much ventilation is required. Part F says that where a kitchen previously had only a recirculating fan this can be retained/replaced if it is made no worse. However, I would always recommend fitting an extractor to deal with condensation. • Kitchen: 30l/s if over the hob and 60l/s if placed elsewhere so you could have an expelair type extractor on an external wall that will comply with regs at a minimum.

Hi Luke, We are looking at the S Pure at the moment. I have a question about maximum pan sizes on each cooking zone. It mentions the cooking zone sizes in the technical specs, but I’d like to know the maximum pan size can be used on each zone? Also, I assume the pan base can not go over the extractor at all? Thank you
