Flooring Kitchens Design Dilemma

Stuck on what to do with my kitchen floor

Hello! I am normally fairly good at coming up with ideas but I am seriously struggling at the moment. I want to redo my kitchen floor as I don’t quite like it being so light/ white (it’s a nightmare to keep clean). Was hoping to go for a darker tone.

However I have walnut worktops so don’t want anything that will make my kitchen look too dark/ oppressive. I have done some research but struggling to find any nice kitchens with dark worktops and decent flooring

Any suggestions welcome! Photos attached! Happy to repaint the cabinet doors as part of this project.

I think it's just a big area of white. I'm nota fan of kitchen rugs, bit I think it would go really well here and be much easier than a new floor!

I have a dark slate effect floor in my kitchen and it annoyingly shows every crumb, so I wouldn’t go too dark. I really think a wood or wood effect floor would look fab. As long as you don’t try to match the worktop, I think it would work. So a paler wood. You could go for real wood, engineered wood, porcelain wood effect, laminate or LVT, the choice is endless!

Nice mock up pic of the garden but, the slab steps through the lawn, detract from the varying green shades you have (or could have). The summer house is a nice and smart addition. Although, you may feel some are costly, you should view them the same way you would a property extension as, you can potentially, create extra space (or another room) with summer houses which is a positive. In terms of plants for low maintenance, evergreens will always be an option but, don't dismiss flowering plants as, a garden can be your sanctuary, your private, peaceful, place and as, we at Bouquet Gardens believe, your asset for good health. Pops of colour during the flowering seasons could, help change your mood, inspire you or de-stress you throughout the year.

Thanks for your advice both of you. We live in England to answer your question Gabby. Is there a rule in Scotland that the aisles have to be 120cm and if so why ? Jonathan, I was kind of thinking we would want to use the island for eating meals on like we do now with our current kitchen table, but I guess if the DR is open to the kitchen then it wouldn't be a problem to take a few steps more to the dining room table (because we use it so infrequently at the moment I am finding that hard to visualise). I am going to post a better plan of our current kitchen and dining room (with the pantry taken out) and I am also going to post a photo looking out from the window in our dining room. I am wondering if we did turn the DR into our kitchen could we make the window ledge higher and put the units in an L-shape so we could put the sink in the window? (and still have space for an island) I know this goes against some of my earlier points, especially about being worried people would be able to look in at us/and would create a more goldfish bowl feeling but I am just playing around with ideas.

I love Jonathans ideas. The space is amazing but looks a little stark. I like this image below because of the contrast between the strong modern architectural elements and the crafted textural cosy living space. In this case the grey and the black wall brings the whole space to life, as does the warm dirty mustard colour and the wicker and wooden elements. Your kitchen would lend itself very well to a similar palette. Even seeing those cardboard boxes against the wall would suggest that it might look better a deeper colour. Huge rugs such as the one below are easily available now, even oversized ones are competitively priced. You could also cluster some low pendant lights to one side. Low wide buit in units either side would bring the space to life. One final thing, another reason the space above works is that everything is repeated. The black lights and the black wall, the mustard stools, cushions and pouff, the copper and cognac sofa and table etc. You could the same by having a huge cream textured rug and cream and mustard cushions, a similar pouf and then bring the same into the kitchen.

Hello Feraz, How about walnut coloured flooring to go with the tops. What colour are your cupboard doors ? I see you have a red fridge so you do not mind colour. Patterned flooring do not show mess as much a plain blocks of colour. Depending on your budget vinyl or tiles ?

You can simulate a rug effect for example

You could paint your cupboards a lighter colour which would lighten the space up. Or cover them with vinyl wallpaper. Depending on your budget you can go to a local car spray shop to get then resprayed or you can respray them yourself.
