Help with colours, dark hallway.
Comments (4)As a rule of thumb use richer or warmer colour on shaded surfaces because if you go for white or light colours in shadow they always look grey. Save white for anywhere day light hits. For your downstairs hall what about paints from Farrow and Ball: Upstairs the hall looks narrow but even so, adding details will help - wall lights, mirrors etc. I think this area needs more elaboration. Maybe this is a good place for your wallpaper which just might be too much with the tiles downstairs? A picture rail would be appropriate here and be sure to choose a colour for the woodwork that suits, the default white might not. Jane...See MoreColour for dark hallway

Comments (2)Hello Asandi, I must advise that you paint your woodwork white, you are 100% on the right track with this thinking. If you look at my previous project in walpole you can see the large difference that painting your woodwork can make. Your space will brighten and as you had advise that the space can become gloomy what better way is there than to brighten the space. With regards to painting the walls I would stick to a nice neutral colour palette as your spaces are currently Green, Cream and Grey based. Farrow & Balls 'Shadow White' would be a wonderful colour to ad to your spectrum, as it is bright in colour so will contrast nicely against your white woodwork and will keep your area bright yet provide you with a certain elegance. (Below is a snap of the colour). With regards to carpet a nice (Grey & Cream) Herringbone patterned carpet would be a wonderful addition to your stairway. Good luck with your project, I'd be happy to help should you need any further input or advice. Kerry...See MoreHelp! Colour for a light & dark hallway & landing
Comments (0)Some more help please, this time for hallway, stairs & landing! We have a fairly light but small hallway, a light to dark stairway and a very light landing at one end to very dark at the other. Some advice on carpet and paint colours would be really helpful and how we can make best use of the larger part of the landing. We were thinking of getting a grey woven carpet for stairs & landing (our bedroom has a pale grey carpet and the kids rooms have a cream carpet) but not sure how to make best use of the light & dark areas. Thanks for your help!!...See Moremelanie Neep
