Flooring Kitchens

what size tiles good for kitchen.

Hi ,
We are thinking about getting tiles for kitchen floor.
Could someone please give me some advice on the size of the tiles . what is the best size tiles for kitchen flooring . 305 x305mm or 610mm x 610mm. good.
Any advice really helpful .

Depends on the size if the kitchen and if you like to see lots of lines. Larger tiles can be used in a small room as they give the perception of size. You could go 500 x 500 or 450 x 450.

Thanks so much! I took a look at the page but couldn’t quite figure it out..so the cupboards on the wall are standard wall cupboards (I guess 60cm deep?). The banquet is then built out below that? So there is 60cm of hollow space behind the seat under the wall cupboards? Sorry if I’m asking a silly question! We’ve been looking at building a stud wall to hide some stuff but this could work much better, just feel that the hollow space could possibly be put to use to store something!

Hi S, Regarding the blinds, we would recommend having matching blinds for the french doors and the window. You might like to consider having sunscreen roller blinds as they provide some privacy and shading without blocking all the light. Here are some examples of sunscreen blinds we have installed. I think one of the biggest problems in your lounge is where the radiator has been positioned. Ordinarily they would sit in the bay, and yours has been moved to the internal wall fairly opposite the fireplace. Can you move that? Also, the door is not in a great place as it too hinders sofa placement. The rad and the door are both in the way. Although it seems like a radical move, it is really essential to move both of them for an optimum layout as the room is not wide enough to place sofas across like this:- I like the blinds, and the rug and you could certainly work with those colours. If you want added plushness at the windows to make it more cosy, then put up curtains with a nice chunky wooden pole too. The mirror is a bit large for the fireplace, so I would change that. I'd probably also change the shelving system to the left of the fireplace. It dominates the room, and doesn't match so well with the one on the right. Swapping the T.V to the left hand side makes it shielded from the windows and is a slightly better place for it.

They're at the cheap end of german carcase manufacturing and are a high volume producer and equivalent to howdens or wickes(rigid) cabinets but with a few differences. Made from high density melamine faced chipboard that's 16mm, with a thicker front edge tape (cheap uk cabs have a thin 0.4mm edge tape) and good quality drawers and hinges, finish of cabinets and edging is to a good standard, all white internals (so no choice of matching to doors unless white) in the uk most carcases are offered in 5 colours and independants may have a choice of over a 100 colours and woodgrains, limited choice of door styles and with many doors made of a cut and edged melamine faced chipboard, a 2mm back panel thats stapled into a groove is rubbish IMO, the back panel is so important to the structural rigidity of a cabinet, if you have a flimsy panel thats been fitted in a slot then stapled the cabinet might be out of square before you start, an 18mm panel thats been cut square and kd blocked and screwed into a carcase (no groove required) will keep the cabinet square, overtime a 2mm panel will cup (especially on larders) and may pop out of the slots and come away (I used to do remedials for this for a well known national kitchen company). Personally I'd shop around and speak to some local independants who supply 18mm carcases in a wide range of colours, opt for Blum soft close hinges and drawers (as the germans do) and depending on the door style that you're looking at I'm sure that they'll have something similar and they will be able to supply to the same kitchen design, some door companies have even more door sizes to choose from so you don't end up with large unsightly fillers. Even diy kitchens is limited to their door sizes compared to other manufacturers, ie their single oven towers have an unsightly filler over the oven where as other manufacturers have a 650 tall door, they also don't offer 715x196 and 715x546 wide doors for example.
