Retain and reuse bath and taps?
Comments (11)My WCs were tiny and had a totally cute tiny sinks in each. Villeroy and Bosch make some, and you can maybe get creative and add a DIY one downstairs at least. I did find it inconvenient to not have a toilet by the bathtub, especially since the nearest WC was a half-flight below on the stairs landing. I lived in a quirky self-built post WWII house in Germany, that was originally two small units, one on each floor with both toilets in the stairwell! All the plumbing was original. My landlord sold it after we moved out and I bet all the character is gone now. No appreciation at all for MCM in Germany, although modern style is very popular. I wish I could have carted home the tons of cool MCM stuff I saw by the curb as the younger generation took over. Still regret leaving the mosaic 1950s coffee table, but it weighed a ton! If there is no assistance to maintain Edwardian style houses in Scotland, are there any programs to help improve their energy efficiency, short of replacing the windows. Studies in the US have shown that traditional wood windows can be almost as efficient as new replacement windows with proper maintenance and a storm (inside or outside). I posted some suggestions for inexpensive energy upgrades at another post: https://www.houzz.com/magazine/my-houzz-accessibility-with-personality-in-an-1870-home-stsetivw-vs~16646998 https://www.houzz.com/magazine/easy-green-9-low-cost-ways-to-insulate-windows-and-doors-stsetivw-vs~4929532 One thing I saw a lot in Germany and Northern Europe was very thick and heavy blanket-like covering for doors and windows. They also had built-in shutters called rolladen outside--built right into the very thick masonry walls. Never made it to Scotland though--do they have anything like that there?...See MoreAdvice on Waterfall Taps
Comments (4)Nobody wants to spend their lives cleaning! you are right that brushed steel can help mask stains. Another tip is to avoid using harsh cleaners such as cillit bang etc. They take limescale off but they also take layers of chrome and protective films off of products! in the long run you end up ruining your expensive brassware!. Waterfall taps are a great feature, but they only work in certain situations....See Morehelp with bathroom taps!
Comments (19)Thank you guys for your helpful advice and comments. Chloe yes I love wall mounted taps too, we are definitely getting wall mounted for bath but I don’t think we can for basin as it’s an external wall so unless a plumber can do something very clever we’d probably have to put some extra studwork in there which would reduce the width of the room which we can’t do unless we made the shower smaller than a 900x900 quadrant which we also don’t want to do! I love the crosswater brushed brass taps, but I can’t seem to find a tall basin mixer tap version of the range, and we need a tall mixer tap as we’d love a countertop basin. It’s so frustrating when the companies don’t do all the different types of tap for that range, some of them I find don’t do showerhead versions either so you can’t match it all up!...See MoreI want advice on buying a freestanding bath tap please
Comments (6)Hi, Need a bit more info; Is it a traditional bath or modern? Have you got a picture/link? Do you want a hand shower by the bath for cleaning and use in bath? Is the bath surrounded by stud walls or does it have to be floor standing? What is your budget? Vado you can be looking at £600+, Hansgrohe £1800+ but you can get discounts. Cheaper, unsufficiently supported floor taps are wobbly so I'd really avoid. Sounds more like a modern tub bath to me - would be great to see pictures :)...See MoreCaroll Brown
