2 years agoBlue in a cool north facing room will just make it cooler I think? I don’t think it would work. How about yellow or a dusky pink? They will create warmth.

Paint colour advice for North facing lounge
Comments (14)Hi Emma. For a long narrow room (relatively speaking as it isn't narrow!), you could paint the 2 short walls the dark colour as this will "correct" the room's proportions rather than paint the long wall as it will accentuate the length. Alternatively you'd normally paint the fireplace wall to highlight the feature. I think as you've got doors it should break it up a bit but I'd do the doors in the same colour. I would probably go for something a bit richer than pitch blue, like Hague blue. I know whose room that is you've pictured in the 2nd pic so will try and find the colour but am sure it was a valspar paint! You could also try downpipe which works well in a north facing room. I'd probably put these with warm whites/neutrals rather than grey. Elephants breath can work really well in a north facing room but can also just look grey and agree with littlesongs comments! You could also go dark on all walls and layer the lighting, add mirrors etc. Or if you decide light then people can make colour suggestions for that :)...See MoreNorth Facing lounge can anyone recommend a grey-blue paint?

I've just had a nosy through your ideabook and activity :) as the room is north facing I'd go for an inky blue/grey rather than the cool mid tone blues and greys as they would just make the room feel really cold. I've also spotted your post re elephants breath and skimming stone. I would get testers of these, they can work work extremely well in a north facing room but may not in others so try them in different lights. Elephants breath particularly is a great "colour". Comments (14)Thank you for your suggestion regarding the house layout. We really like what you've done to maximise the space downstairs and to include our room requirements in your thinking. We love the utlity area, with an additional nooks for coats etc. and the sizeable pantry off the kitchen. Definitely a good idea to incude plumbing, where we play to put to palyroom because eventually we could see this turned into an additional bedroom for elderly relatives. The re-shuffle of the upstairs space is clever, to minimse cost e.g. with the en-suite bathroom for the master bedroom. I prefer what you've done with the two smaller rooms, by including a doormer whould make the space more useable...and one of the rooms could still become an office. Questions: - by installing roof lights in the downstairs extension, do you feel that would be sufficient light for the ktichen space? Comments (9)i'd choose a pale neutral rather than brilliant white - which could appear quite cold in a north-facing room. a pale neutral will read as 'white' but won't be stark. something like slaked lime (mid or pale perhaps) from little greene. but there's loads of pale neutrals, depends what undertone of any other neutrals in the room has as to which one will work best. and i'd do as you first suggested - the blue in the fireplace alcove and pale the rest of the walls. the dark alcove will be a cosy focal point and be brought forward visually by being a darker colour. rather than a beam of light in an otherwise dark room....See Morejessa61

2 years agoOh dear but I know what you mean! May I suggest F&B Calamine, Setting Plaster or Dulux Blush Pink? I think the black desk is gorgeous and would sit well with pink. I even think the wardrobes would look nice in black, but not so sure in a north facing room. Maybe a soft grey like Ammonite or the warm taupe shades like Skimming Stone? The pics below are Calamine, Setting Plaster and lastly Blush Pink.
