what colour walls to tie in this furniture

Me and my partner are moving into a house in the coming weeks, and combining furniture. We aren't sure how to tie our living room together with a colour scheme. Any ideas for pulling these pieces together in this room? thanks!

Congrats. Exciting times ahead :)

Get your furniture in first. Live with it awhile to de-stress after the move and get the feel of your new home. Then have a look. The natural light, rugs and sofa colours, and wall / ceiling lights all change when you put them together in a space. The images you have shown compliments each other. So all tie in. If you are keeping the light blue on the walls, it looks like it will go together too. Using throws, cushions, plants and pictures ties a room together but it depends on the look you want and or the compromise.

Remember to not be afraid to mix and match. But also if a layout does not work, change it around and then change it again if not sure.

If really stuck then post again to get some more advice.

If the blue doesn't suit you, go for an offwhite (RAL9010) or something a bit more greige (F&B Dimity/Skimming Stone?).

Live there for a while, decorate, then decide if the room needs some more color.

Pale duck egg type colours are amazing for being bright during the day but deepening by lamplight. I can recommend Craig and rose's 'porcelain blue' which I've just put in my bedroom. Possibly similar to the F&B colour mentioned above but definitely more to the blue side. As above, it changes through the day: in early morning it is nearly white, then a cool light blue, then soft warm duck egg with a definite hint of green, and in lamplight in intensifies to a richer blue. Divine colour! I'm totally envious of your living room. It is stunning! It does look dark but be wary of trying to go too light and bright. Old houses with low ceilings and cottagey windows are unlikely to ever be scandi-style light, so think vivid colour instead of pale tones. However, I do wonder if a lot of the darkness in the living room comes from the carpet. I wonder what's underneath it? If it's floor boards that can be sanded or painted to pale you may find the room will look instantly brighter. Team that with pale tones in furniture and bright colours on the walls ... In all honesty, I think you'll end up with a stunning room no matter what with that age and character (but I'm a historian, so I would say that!!).

Hello there, I was a rep for Benjamin Moore paints and have worked with a lot of paint colours - they have 3500 in the full collection! For a small room you need a colour with warmth in it a hint of yellow to reflect the light but it will predominantly depend on the colour and amount of light coming in to your room. I would be happy to order some large samples of colour sheets that are sprayed in the actual colour so you can check the tone works in your room free of charge.
