Kitchen, diner, family room layout dilemma
Comments (5)Thank you for your suggestions. We’ve got an architect coming round tomorrow so hopefully he’ll be able to tell us which walls are possible to take out. That’s a good idea to dig out the ground and maybe put glass doors along the back. I’d really like to be able to step straight outside without steps and it would let a lot more light in. The downside is the loss of wall space to fit kitchen units. Both rooms have large chimney breasts so i think it will either have to be a bespoke kitchen which is fitted around them or take out the chimney breasts. Not sure which one would be in our budget. I was also thinking a large island unit, but then that would block the view of the glass doors from the dining and sitting area....See MoreDesigning our kitchen/diner/family room
Comments (6)Two similar layouts: 1. Keep the fireplace, centre kitchen, small sofa's or corner sofa on the left. 2. Place kitchen where fireplace was, dining table and sofa's where you'd like them. No tv in either option, as there are two lounge/tv rooms already. Big island. Keep walkways open (no sofa in front of the entry for example). Move the utility door to create more wallspace....See MoreMaking a more useable space kitchen / diner / utility / family room
Comments (2)Hi, Georgina I could certainly help you put together a design for these 3 spaces. A much smaller space but this is a concept design I recently put together for a family in Milton Keynes (all of the work was done remotely due to COVID). www.myclaybrickhome.com/post/kitchen-concept-design I also completed a large reno at My Claybrick Home last year and you can see some of my kitchen photos here. www.houzz.co.uk/hznb/projects/kitchen-and-dining-space-pj-vj~6337964 If you would like a concept design putting together the cost is £150. This covers the kitchen & family room. Feel free to drop me a reply or an email to vicky@myclaybrickhome.com to book a free no obligation consultation. Good luck with the extension Rgds Vicky...See MoreWhat should we do with our kitchen diner family space?
Comments (18)I guess this will come down to how much you want to spend, if you are prepared to do an extension out the back then assume you are comfortable with some structural work. Also if you are happy to lose the garage or some of it you actually have a much larger space to work with. If it were my house and I had the budget to do a complete ‘rejig’, i would do the following: 1. Push the bathroom, utility area and storage areas into the garage but still leaving a garage door with a much smaller ‘garage’ space for stuff we just dump in the garage. Add a door if possible to the garage much closer to the front door to access the storage area. Access the bathoorm and utility via the currently under stairs door. 2. Now move the kitchen to the right into the space currently occupied by the bathroom and study, creating space for a nice size island, room fo an American fridge freezer and tall cupboards etc. 3. Move the study to the left hand side, which would run from the garden wall where the first bifolds end down to the existing vertical beam column, effecitvely making use of this as part of that study and therefore it isnt just a column in the middle of the room. 4. You will be left with a large L shaped kitchen lounge diner, where you can either choose to have a play area in front of the kitchen or tv snug and dining area to the left of it or vice versa. Whatever suits! Obviously this is without seeing the actual spaces and room dimensions to see how much open space you would get but looks like could work from your floor plan. Maybe too much work though :)...See MoreHU-217903218
