Twin beds against chimney breast help

Final bedroom I would be grateful of any help with...
This will be a twin room. I've bought the mattresses to try the layout first and the beds work better this way against the chimney breast because the right side has a bay window with radiator and the other two walls to the left (wallpaper one) and opposite are too short due to an angled entrance door! (no I can't alter the door).
Fire in the chimney is just electric so we can remove this.
I'm just trying to work out how best to position them because I'm not sure if I just have a small gap in the middle so that there is lots of space either side for people to get in/out that way.
Or
you would push them to the side walls and have larger central gap with bedside in the middle. But as the bay is to the right, it might look/be weird this way?? 🙈
I will probably go for a light grey divan with padded headboard that will join together to make a superking if needed so this is the best position.
Did think about under the bed as sockets either side but might be awkward closing the curtains and might block out some light (although headboards won't be that tall)

It's a bit of a squish! 😂
I had a double there and it was awkward but then i did have two nightstands and a cupboard in an alcove. it might work if I just put a single nightstand between them - will try it tonight 😁

Hi, Agree with Carolina, also you could put cupboard doors on the front which open up to reveal the bedside units and shelves - may be easier from a tidyness point of view (if you're anything like me!). Here's some ideas for you... This one shows the kind-of effect I was meaning with the wardrobe door. Hope this helps!

Put a full length mirror on the cupboard, balance the other side with either another wardrobe ( you don't say if you have room for one elsewhere, or a nice armchair. Then put a dressing table in front of the chimney breast. If you have no room for wardrobes elsewhere, the best thing to do is put sliding wardrobe doors across the front of the whole thing at a good wardrobe depth and cover it all up You can buy these systems cheaply at Ikea and have a handyman install them, we are cheaper than carpenters etc and many of us are very used to putting such things and flat packs together, fast and efficiently.

Thanks all! I really like the Serif, but I'm just not sure our living room allows for it. In addition, kids may be on the horizon so I think fear also plays a part! @Sarah U-S, thanks for the comment regarding the cable. I just see a video actually where the installer ran it behind a stud wall - however recommended not doing so for brick (our fireplace is plastered brick). That being said, we were thinking of doing something like the photo below, with cabinets built into the alcoves and perhaps even across the front of the chimney breast. Our thinking is that if the cupboards in front are kept very narrow it will not take too much space and we might be able to use the chimney opening to increase the depth a little. In this 'solution', we;d put The Frame sitting just above the cabinet at a sensible height, then pictures above say (as per @minnie101 's comment). The cable would presumably be able to run just a very short distance down into the cabinet, which wouldn't be so bad? Might even be able to hide it with a tiny ornament/plant in front...?

If this is a terraced Victorian or early Edwardian house, what you’re seeing is pretty typical - as someone else has pointed out above, the reason this fireplace looks off centre is almost certainly that the flue for the fireplace in the room below it runs to the left. If you’re using the fireplace below, do NOT knock into this one just to see what’s there - you could end up cracking the lining and causing smoke to come through. If you’re not using the fireplace below, you have much more options: the cheapest is to close off the right of the fireplace so that the remaining gap is centred; you could also fit a load bearing lintel and extend to the left. I’m with Cacoona though - asymmetry can be a nice feature

This is it with the beds on that back wall. Door opens OK but not reality wide as hits the bed and I can only fit one small bedside between them.

Oh, it’s lovely for air b&b ! Headboards against wall paper gets my vote. Although a bit squished against fireplace, space clear in bay for suitcases is useful

We've scrapped it! Lol! Just didn't work anyway really ideally.

So the smaller room we were going to make as a double actually works better for the twins as no bay and no chimney breast 🙈

Could you fit a full width deep shelf (exact depth of the alcove) either side, the height of the beds? If you could get a very low headboard, the shelf could be slightly higher. Then have a lamp attached to the wall above each shelf and use the shelf for books etc behind each bed. This would 'flatten' the wall and mean no bedside tables are necessary?

@colourhappy yes - even with the double bed we think it would still work better against the chimney breast so we could still put some deep shelves in and have one with hanger rail above for clothes maybe.

We will move the double down this week and reassess. The double we will use now in here will be a black metal framed one so have to see how it all looks with the open chimney part 🙄

We have now decided against putting them in the room as well so as long as we can have just a small gap between the twins in this room (ie space to walk either side) then this room works much better 🙈
Been dragging those poor mattresses from room to room for the last day 🤣

So yes, any ideas grateful. Will have to cover over the chimney breast as when the beds are in it will look odd.

What about a piece of ply fixed onto the chimney thats wider than the beds and I can paint/pad out as a headboard?
Would we have to go across from wall to wall if we did this though and add a top on the alcove bit ie like a build in unit? It's a lot of work 🙈

Just put them against eachother. Like in last pic but closer. With two separate duvets most people don't mind. Attach a wooden headboard to the chimney to close off the hearth. Then if guests really insist on two separate beds you can always pull one over to the wallpaper wall.

We put a double up against a chimney breast like this but created a false front to it that was as wide as the bed. We then filled the gap behind the false front with shelves. It worked really well for us.

How about reversing the door so it opens the other way, or even into the hall, so you can put the beds against the wall papered wall?

Sadly we can't move the door. It's a bungalow and all the doors are next to each other so it will open onto someone coming down the stairs.

Beds won't fit against the papered wall as door hits them.

We have found the best place is against the chimney and as Mary says, we are going to get a large sheet of ply and create one large headboard now (will pad and fabric over - as for what pattern or colour to go for, that's another dilemma!! 🤣). Then do a build in shelf that curves around to form side tables (think Colourhappy mentioned this as well)

In the future - we think we are going to panel the whole wall up so it forms a flat wall and the panel sections in the alcoves will become cupboards for storage 😁 No time to do it now but I think in autumn we can design and get it made without little disruption. It would give us a good large wall then without compromising on space.
- now just need to work out how to dress the room 😱 - separate thread I think??
