Removing karndean

Wondering if it's possible to replace our karndean flooring with laminate ourselves to save some (a lot!) Of money.
Has anyone done this successfully themselves before? Karndean is layed on top of ply and we've got suspended chipboard floors.

We’ve just removed a Karndeaan floor in our kitchen/diner. We used a circular saw (on a shallow setting) to cut the flooring into strips. then a crowbar to prise up the plywood. we then had to remove any nails left behind.

Black Oak Builders is right. Usually the floor would be completed before the kitchen, however anything's possible in this day and age! It's hard to tell by your photo what level of work would be required, however if you're looking to match the terrazzo floor, that's no problem. We've actually recently matched the London Coliseum's cracked terrazzo floor (see photo - they sent us a tiny sample to match). Of course it depends on your favoured finish, but terrazzo is a great, durable option which is making huge waves in the interiors world currently. Do I add a peninsula to this kitchen?

Well friends.....there's been some developments! I tried out the idea of having a peninsula by moving my existing freestanding unit to the end of the run next to the bin. Although it is bigger than the small peninsula I was proposing I was interested to see how easy it was to live with. The answer is it wasn't! The ovens being the other side of it meant I had to dash round it to check things in the oven, turn the timer off, etc and I couldn't picture myself doing that all the time. (I do a lot of cooking.) Sadly I don't think at the minute we are up for a major reshuffle of units and ovens and I can't decide what we would do about the boiler unit as its right in the way of that end run. So.....back to original layout!

Hi, I'm certain retailer would like to get paid as much as you would like to have £2.5k worth of flooring to your satisfaction. In contrast to what few imply that you have been "ripped-off", you have entered the contract to which at the time you believed to be value for money. What level of service have you been sold is another matter and it sounds there is some sort of miscommunication on how and with what products flooring should be finished around perimeter. Manufacturer states for expansion gap to be necessary requirement and before taking your order, estimator/salesperson should have explained all the options available. Beading or any type of moulding would not work against bifold door frame, and simplest option would be Premier Trim Little Lip from "StairRods". It's available in various surface finishes. As far as regarding "floor movement", floor should move under foot but only very slightly, as its "Floating Click". If there is excessive movement, that would most likely be inadequate subfloor preparation (if any was applied). As with any LVT products, due to lack of mass (weight), absolutely crucial and most important job is to prepare subfloor. Again, it goes down to what you have been sold by the retailer. I'm sure you can get someone to talk sense and resolve it amicably, and if not you first port of call should be "Karndean". If retailer is authorised "Karndean" installer, they will take it on board to rectify any issues offering retailer to correct it or organise for Master Installer to attend. All the best.

Hi! We sell both Karndean LVT and Engineered Wood. Both work brilliantly with underfloor heating. We would say that LVT is slightly more durable than engineered wood, as it EW can swell when it becomes damp. It is also easy to lay and repair as tiles can be removed and replaced.
