Design Dilemma Gardens Flooring

indoor / outdoor flooring

Hello!

I was thinking of having a wooden herringbone floor on our kitchen extension, but what would I pair that with for the outdoor flooring on the other side of the bifolds? Maybe I should reconsider the inside flooring for something better for indoor / outdoor flooring...

I might do something like the attached photo, but pair it with wooden furniture that would match the indoor flooring, to create that continuity?
Not sure, just looking for ideas really. Thank you

Maybe choosing a darker shade? If that is outdoor porcelain it can be difficult to clean, especially that colour. If the R Rating (non slip rating) is R13 it is massively non slip but that very fact makes it cling onto the dirt. Maybe go for a R11 rating? You could then get the same paving for indoors for that sleek look.

Heating and lighting make an outdoor space so much more versatile. We will often try to incorporate some of the inside decor or flooring into the hard landscaping if possible to create a sense of continuity. If you cant use the same floor tiles then there are other ways to create this effect. An example of this is in a Chiswick Courtyard where we painted the fence the same colour as the indoor kitchen units.

Good evening Iveta, even we are not based on your area we would love to help find you a solution for your extension and outdoor space. There are multiple options for what you need but first of all there are a few questions to ask. 1. What are you hoping to install the tiles on externally? 2. Do you need a grip finish (advisable with children or if there is chance for build up on the tiles) 3. Are you looking for a 10mm internal and 20mm external tile? I think we have a 300x1200 20mm plank available to us with a 10mm internal option which isn't currently on our website. Hi James, if you want to achieve a seamless inside / outside look I would suggest having a look at Millboard. This is a very high quality composite decking that is virtually maintenance free. Their Enhanced grain, Golden or Limed Oak would work well with the floor finish above. I always advise clients to go a shade darker for outdoor finishes compared to interior finishes as outdoor light levels are obviously brighter. The other issue you'll need to consider is levels, with a decking solution you can achieve a near flush level finish with interior flooring as decking can self drain through the narrow gaps between boards and be directed away from the house. It can also avoid any conflict you may have with air bricks or DPM levels as air flow can be maintained below deck level. Millboard have an approved contractors scheme so you should be able to find someone who's experienced in using this material in your area.

Just an extra note - it is about 200 years old, made in thick wood that would have been scrubbed down daily by a french farmers wife, so it's starting with a pretty solid base, not a delicate finely finished piece.
