Design Dilemma Exteriors Gardens

Garden suggestions?

Suggestions welcome for side area, by back door, currently storing bins, steps up to decking, and clutter. Would be nice to have a potting area and large compost pile perhaps. Testing OSMO Bankirai on decking fascias. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

Looks like a nice area! Perhaps some integrated shelving mid level with a compost store beneath, pallet wood with a nice subtle coloured stain would suit the area well.

This is where we are with it now, decided to go with something quite easy to design, and relatively easy to install as I have zero experience! new fencing installed to right side rendered left wall (contractor) small decked area at the back sleeper borders down both sides new porcelain paving (contractor) grass reseeded (had to strip back some turf in the photo before winter to make it lower than new paving - so reseeded that last week) So hopefully by the end of March it’ll look a bit better, we’re looking to get some flamingo gravel in the borders and only god knows what we will plant!?! Also looking to put some taller bits toward the decked area, so we can have the back as a little secluded area as suggested. We ended up avoiding the circles as wasn’t brave enough to incorporate in to the design as we have no idea what we are doing but quite like the idea of some large metal spheres amongst the plants in the borders. Hi. Giving this a bump. There are lots of tricks you can use to create a feeling of more depth. With the the pergola/ arch example it’s always best to have something beyond it so that it draws the eye and gives it a sense of purpose. I think your options are to keep it or remove it. It depends what you prefer - to have a fire or to have the space. Maybe it would be possible to create a new fireplace in the lounge part of the room instead, but that depends on a lot of different factors and you'll need to get someone to advise you specifically about that after checking your home.

Hi all, wow thank you for the feedback. Definitely food for thought! It is so hard going from a flat with a balcony to a real garden so the idea of plants is daunting. I really see what you meant about taking the border behind the patio at the back so there is less fence (I hate looking at wood!) and investigating other ideas to draw the eye rather than another patio on the left. I think I will keep investigating, I want it to look nice as it is your direct line of sight from the sofa but don’t want anything too tall as it creates shade on the back right which is the only constant spot where we get sun. In terms of the patio by the house, I may need to add interest using pots. Even though I am removing the shed we will still need some sort of bike store / shed which I will put up against the fence as I don’t want to put it at the back of the garden and use up a sunny spot. I’ve also looked into composite decking and think I am now against that as I have read rats and mice can nest under it. We back onto a field and are currently dealing with a rat problem so don’t want to attract any more! Next steps are to continue looking on Pinterest and incorperate these changes. Thank you :)
