I’ve bought an emerald green lounge suite, have the cushion colours I want and gold tables etc but cannot decide what colour rug to match to it?

Would you be looking to have a patterned rug or just plain? also what sort of textures were you looking for? whether you like the high pile/thick rugs e.g. shaggy or a the thin low pile rugs? I would personally go with a neutral colour in my own home however, depending on what flooring you also have would also depend on whether a warmer or cooler colour would also be suited too

I would choose something neutral so it doesn’t clash with the sofa and cushions. There are so many out there but I think this one would add texture. Or you could try a Persian rug which will sit well with the jewel colours.

I can't tell as it depends on the colour of your carpet and surrounding walls. If they are all very neutral, why not use your rug as an opportunity to inject some colour into the room? Most colour would go and if you pick a rug with more than one colour, you can then use that to change your accessories when you get bored

I think you feel it looks too solid is because you haven’t followed through with the rest of the room, for example cushions to tie in with it. Further up these comments minnie101 has suggested some black patterned cushions which i think would lift the scheme, however if you really don’t like it then follow your heart and return it. Why keep something you don’t like? Then choose a colour-way that you prefer, such as the blue you suggested. A blue coastal theme would tie in nicely with the neutral theme you have at the moment. By the way, i got a Turkish rug from Olney Carpets in Bucks, and they let us take it home for a week to see if we liked it before buying! True service, and yes we did buy it! Of course buying online does give you that option too. I wish you lots of luck.

Personally I think you have enough pattern with the chair and cushions and I feel you need more contrast so I would add one pale cushion to each side of the sofa and then find a plain pale textured rug- you will have woodwork and ceilings that are likely a soft white so try to find one like this.

Thank you for your help. The house has Matt light grey tiles throughout and I can’t change them.
