Lounge paint inspiration

Hi all, I'm looking to paint my lounge as I'm finding it a bit plain. I'd like to bring some warmth to it. I was thinking to just paint the chimney breast wall? I'm not keen on any greeny tones in paint. Otherwise I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I think the whole wall, not just the chimney breast, would really add impact. I would suggest a Blue such as Oval Room Blue or the darker Hague Blue. It always looks good with tan sofas.

First it is Oval Room Blue, then Inchyra Blue and lastly Hague Blue.

It's a lovely room. Blue or green would be good.
I'd do the whole room, not just one wall or chimney. Is that a hatch behind the sofa, Asif wall is painted I'd need to do that too to hide it!

Do you have a pic of the other wall/window wall.

Hi, we had the same situation when we moved into our new house. We spent quite some time deciding what to do and in the end we removed the archway and laid a light oak wood floor. The room is so much more versatile whilst being much lighter and brighter. A great bonus is that it also provides for a fabulous socialising space, plus we are able to entertain far more people at the dining table by putting a larger plywood top over our existing table and are no longer restricted by space.

Thanks for the suggestions all. The photos (and 3 sofas in them) belong to the current owner and we're hoping they go with them! We'll be bringing 2x 2 seaters with us and ideally would like to accommodate those - as per the original post, one is a sofa bed so need to have something that works for pulling that out occasionally (maybe using it for the bottom left sofa in honeypoppet's suggestion)

Hi Diana. Re your windows I would look at something like this (dining room pics in link) http://www.drivenbydecor.com/2015/05/window-treatments-tricky-recessed-corner-windows.html 0r have a voile blind inside the recess and the curtains hung outside to give more height to the room. I'd go for a pole that doesn't contrast with the wall colour. Farrow and ball blackened may work for the walls (which way does the room face? I'm assuming some of the pics are a little dark as you didn't have any light behind you when taking the pic?!). Were you planning on dressing the feature window? As you've got cool and warm greys I'd layer them so a warm grey sofa with a cool grey or maybe blue ikat cushion. I'd have seating at right angles to the fire, sofa to the right of the fire with a lamp table closest to the fire and 2 accent chairs opposite, patterned ones might be nice. I'd go for large art over the fire rather than a mirror as you've got the window, perhaps a landscape. In terms of the look you want, perhaps look at velvet for the sofa. Lamps will add cosiness, a driftwood lamp will give the natural look. Add texture for the seating, perhaps a patterned cushion in front of a textured one and a textured throw on the other arm of the sofa. Also use plants and perhaps some faux flowers (I like oka faux hydrangea but it needs to be mixed with foliage). Perhaps a brass glass coffee table to add some warmth with some coffee tables books and the flowers!

I had a sample of oval room blue and found it far too green for my liking. I can see green in all 3 of the above walls.. I'd rather something more blue than green?

Think it's my eyesight, it's a window? If so, the blinds spoil the room a bit.

Yes it's a window! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Previous owners added a porch so that was originally the window to outside. Now it looks into the porch! I will board over it both sides but the builder is busy demolishing a different room at the mo!
I was worried painting all the walls would close it in? I want it to look warm but not small.

Stiffkey blue leans more towards red/purple tones, so less greenish - that might suit you? Or you could go further around the colour week away from green, into Brinjal which is a beautiful aubergine colour.

Yeah that's more like what I was thinking. If I painted the whole of the wall with the chimney on it in that Stiffkey blue colour would it be too stark a contrast with the white on the other walls? Do I need to paint the other 3 walls more of an off white? I guess I could just do it then see how it looks?

Yes why not give it a go and see what you think. You might find that the blue casts a bit of a cold glow over the other walls so you might need something warmer on those walls to counter balance it. Look forward to seeing the results!

Should I paint inside the fire place too? Up to the wall?

Yes I’d take the blue over the side walls of the fireplace. Just check it’s safe for that.

I would use an exact match of that fabulous orange on your leopard print for the chimney breast.
