To waterfall or not

Hi, i was wondering if I could get opinions on waterfall edged Islands in an open plan kitchen/dining/living
We need to decide whether to have it or not, and whilst I do find the look beautiful, will I still love it in 5 years time.
Rough estimate is £1000 more to have it

Can you afford £1000? It's not a huge amount in the whole price of the average kitchen. If it's what you really want....

I wouldn't as I don't like them....

Hi Marc, When I read waterfall, I am assuming that you want to create something naturalistic? In which case this is a great space in which to create a waterfall. It will require some effort but you could definitely do something spectacular with a good quality pond liner and a tonne of nice rock. I would suggest a small sump pool / pond at the base of the feature. I would use the spoil from the digging of the pond to build up against the wall, you will probably need to import some soil and sand also. When creating the slope make sure you bury the pipes that will eventually feed water to the waterfall. Create a couple of turns in the waters path down the slope, with flat areas at the turns, that way once you have lined the pond and waterfall you will be able to cement stones into the water flow. Make sure you leave space for some planting around the waterfall as it will help it look even more natural. Good luck!

If you didn't have the waterfall worktop and it was a decor panel (to match the door colour) you'd have skirting so I'd do the same with the worktop. To me I think it would look odd without skirting especially as it then goes into the knock through, then would you not have any skirting in the rest of the room, which I think would look unfinished. Like a said in an earlier post, the skirting is to cover the gap between the floor and wall finish, if the plaster carries on down to the floor, there's more chance of getting water damage.

HI Sarah, There are a number of options when it goes to integrating sockets in to a kitchen island. The first and easiest option would be to have the worktop cut to accommodate a normal double socket, however this can look a bit of an after thought. The alternatives could be either a pull up pop up socket, which you can manually pull up and push down or as Carla pointed out a S-box flip up socket. Both of these options will have the options for integrating USB charging and some will also have wireless charging. Please be aware as Carla mentioned, the pop up sockets (S-Box) with the seem-less worktop attached to the top will require a specialist worktop fabricator. Hope this information helps.

I think the waterfall is pretty but I personally prefer having accessible storage. But it’s down to personal preference
