2 years agoThere are several configurations for tap placements, but my worktop butts up to the wall and the sink sits within the worktop (it’s an inset sink) and the tap sits within the sink itself (it has pre-drilled hole for the tap). Similar to this.

So my sink will be an undermounted and the tap hole will be made in the worktop itself....
This is the tap I have got:
Curious if I should be asking for some more space at the back the sink Depth is 430mm.Standard worktop I assume is 600mm and undermount sink depth is 430mm which doesnt leave a huge amount at either end, so I'm unsure how this design has been achieved and if this is how it should ideally look?

Comments (13)I'm also questioning the fitters ability to fi I. Line with the wall or pack out the wall where necessary?? I'm not sure how the units above line up and the previous comments are also helpful, as an alternative if you have any lengths of the same wood or can still get hold of a match, you could cut a piece to fit the gap like a wedge and it could be glue in place, make sure the top part isn't over glue so it doesn't squeeze out on top, someone who is handy and with a bit of patience should be able to do it easily enough, if it is cut to fit well it should just wedge in with a tap of a soft hammer and a block of wood, this should then just look like the wood is thicker at the end of the wall, it is a cheaper alternative and you could try it out first, if it doesn't work well or look good enough then you could go for the above suggested alternative of having the wall built out, I'm just not sure how that will look with above units, the best bet would be to have them taken down, have the wall done from worktop to ceiling and then refit the units after. If I was in this situation I would be seriously complaining to the company used for fitting and insist they sort it out, I would request their best fitter is sent and refuse to have the other fitter back under any circumstances as his work has been substandard. Most reputable companies will want to sort it out and fix the problem, if they are awkward you could threaten them with going to watchdog. I hope this was helpful. Comments (12)Urgh, I had the same thing in my last house and I was forever repainting it! (And that was with a kitchen paint) What was most annoying is that I had wanted a much deeper upstand ie going up under the window cill, and the kitchen designers told me I was basically nuts and that’s not what I should get. I shouldn’t have listened to them. It’s fine elsewhere but the sink (and I didn’t have a bowl in it, ha ha) was a mare! You could get another section of the upstand cut to fit into the space. Or some heavy duty wall paint designed for wet areas. Or subtle mosaics perhaps...See MoreSink & taps? Help
Comments (10)If you are definitely getting a double or 1.5-bowl sink, I agree with qudaus above about having the larger bowl at least 500mm, or even larger if you can fit it. It's so much easier to manipulate large pots and pans, baking trays and roasting tins without splashing water everywhere. On taps, I would always go with a single-lever mixer, which is easy to use even with floury, oily or dirty hands. Make sure that the neck has enough (high) clearance over the sink so that you can place high pans underneath. When I did my kitchen I saw some 'tap to turn on/off' models but I am not sure whether they work reliably and in any case, I have two cats and my poor water bill if they ever discovered that trick! Taps with a motion detector on/off feature might be worth a look, though. I also love the pull-spray; super convenient for all sorts of things, including filling a pot with water while the sink is full! Also, using the spray to rinse the sides of pots before washing saves a lot of water compared to filling them to soak. I don't have a hot-water tap and would never choose to, but those who have one swear by them. I feel like it's a waste of energy to keep water at boiling point 24/7, although the manufacturers tell us it is not... Anyway, I just boil the kettle with the volume of water I need for hot drinks, and for cooking, eg pasta, I use the induction hob, which is quick (admittedly not instant!) and extremely energy efficient. Comments (2)Assume you've checked all the hoses and connections for any leaks, the tap is tight and sealed ok Its either coming from a gap between the worktop and the rim of the sink which should have either a gasket, plumbers mate or silicon, where water has splashed over the side of the sink onto the worktop and then run down under the lip but if thats the case if the worktop is a laminate (chipboard) you would also see damage of the worktop. Or condensation, does it stop in the summer, is the sink on an external wall and does the sink get very cold....See Moretwamleyk

2 years agoYes a standard base carcass is 600 deep so you can pull it out slightly and/or have a deeper overhang at the front. When I rub my fingers over the edge of the worktop it is slightly deeper than the edge of the doors which is how it should be.
