Should we put skirting board under the inset fire?
Comments (5)Hello Claire, I apologies if this sounds like a rant but I will attempt to structure it. In my opinion skirting boards are a waste of space, they are just another thing to clean. Their original purpose was so that fancy shoes with spurs wouldn't end up carving out the wall, but since anyone who wears spurs today will find themselves ridiculed to no end, skirting boards have become a way to hide an untidy job with respect to carpeting. My advice is of course to check what your skirtingboads aee hiding and if there is nothing objectionable take them out. If you like them and find they act as a pleasant intermediate between wall and floor keep them and maybe even paint them a contrasting colour to make a feature out of them....See MorePainting skirting boards...
Comments (10)I would key it and then use Zinsser, it's shellac based, and although not pleasant to use, it makes paint adhere to glossy surfaces. I personally find F&B irritating as (although I do sometimes use it) I find it too thin and doesn't cover well. Paint and Paper Library is the best paint, in my opinion but it's pricey. https://www.screwfix.com/p/zinsser-b-i-n-shellac-based-primer-sealer-1ltr/29661?tc=MA3&ds_kid=92700052136101425&ds_rl=1243321&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwY-LBhD6ARIsACvT72Ml77elnExEcsTeWZd5ZUQiuzxxVgU7NQ2oZQsHfFrpxuLFBLkeC5caAgXHEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds...See Morewould silver skirting boards work with purple walls in a bedroom
Comments (5)The silver option is quite unusual - first question - do you own this property ? If yes - great do whatever you like - if no - then probably not. (White skirting with purple might give a similar impression.)...See MoreHow do I fill this space and attach a new skirting board?
Comments (6)You could attach taller skirting boards mayb which would cover the gap, but then you would need to do the whole room so maybe not. Or attach some pieces of plasterboard then skim the area smooth then attach the shorter skirting you already have. If budget allows this would be a pretty simple job for a plasterer and shouldn’t take long....See MoreRuby Shah
