Terraced house renovation, thoughts on changes to the floor plan.
Comments (3)Well, I made it all the way through. You've clearly given this a lot of thought and effort and yes, I really prefer the plan with the Hallway. It actually makes sense for all the rooms not just the lounge. The little corner is that you lose in the lounge by having the Hallway is fairly inconsequential, it just has an armchair in it, and it's and odd shape. So, making it a lovely square room is better. The whole house looks better with the Hallway. Can you change the window position in what I presume is the kitchen at the back? If you have a window on the far wall, you will see daylight, right through from front to back, giving a great visual of the space....See MoreHelp with ground floor layout please...... playroom, snug or study?
Comments (19)We did love some of the suggestions above… but stuck with our original plan! Although we did change the kitchen layout from U-shaped to ”farmhouse” style, with the table in the middle and sink under the window overlooking the garden. The old dining room has become an office with two desks - partly due to COVID and the need to work from home and homeschool etc! We have also moved a lot of the children’s toy storage in here although they still bring things into the main lounge to play where there’s more room. At 8 and 5, they also actually now keep and play with a lot of toys in their rooms, so I think the old dining room will remain as more of a computer and homework room - it’s nice being able to shut the door! The ”study” on the plan is very much a workshop/gym/play room for my husband! We didnt want to sacrifice that space. It might turn into a teenage den later on perhaps, or even a downstairs bedroom for my Nan. The small upstairs bedroom has become a second office as I’m also still working from home (and my husband has too many meetings downstairs!). It houses our sofa bed too so acts as a spare room and my space to do yoga and sewing. Overall, we are pleased with how everything turned out. We quite like the option to have space away from each other and the flexibility to change the use of the different rooms. We do all spend a lot time together in either the kitchen or main lounge as plenty of space in both....See Morelast minute suggestions on floor plan please!
Comments (33)Assuming you have the room internally you can put your soil pipe internally and then have it exit the house below ground level to get to the drain. This avoids the worry of pipes snaking down the outside of the house. Where is the downstairs wc going to be? As this is an indication of where the drains will be dug...See MoreFloorplan help - 1960s semi-detached
Comments (6)Hey Anthony, There's a few options here: You make an open plan kitchen, where the current office actually becomes the dining area. I feel like your living room would be quieter anyway so move the office there. Another option is to live there for a while and see if a side extension is really worth it. See where your family/kids prefer to spend time, and you'll know better if it's worth improving/enlarging a particular space. I don't know what the current upper right corner is used for in your case, but it's often a dead space or just a place to store junk, so in the long run it might be worth converting it to an internal area. If you connect the current living and dinning with bifolds that space risks becoming just an access corridor. On the toilet ideally you would swap it to face the hall, although not sure how much headroom there is under stairs. Office & Living Room open plan - Do you really want to lose that living room? Keeping it separate is usually a geat deal as it can be multipurposed (office, bedroom, library, study etc) Andrei...See Moremisteradam
