Need help on paint colour/theme- new build!
Comments (5)Here's my advice, don't even think about doing it all at once, it's a nightmare. Start in your kitchen and living area and really focus on a three colour focus, a neutral, mid colour and a highlighter depending on your taste. I'm currently doing my area in grey/ green/teal. Then when you are living in it, take your time and develop the theme into the next room because as you live in it , you can decide do you like it and then perhaps vary the tones up and down or change the proportions of the colours and textures. Spend time looking through websites and catalogues and just don't jump at the first thing you see. I have looked at Magnolia walls now for five years and eventually as I worked through each room it became more enjoyable and less of a headache and I could manage it better rather then one big mammoth task....See MoreOak frame new build - Help re a Woodburning stove.

Comments (13)Also, integrated fudge freezer and dishwasher, I would price how much they would be separate and work it out that way. Fridge is no hassle but I've never plumbed in a dishwasher so can't comment on that but know they are a bit more if integrated. Will your kitchen cupboards allow for integrated if you don't pay for the upgrade, I mean will there be a normal door in place of the pull one for the dishwasher? Will there just be a space for the fridge freezer and not the housing cupboard? Will there be a spur at worktop level for the appliances if you don't intigraye them with the builder?Might be best to figure that out also....See MoreSome help with open plan layout for new build pls!
Comments (10)Hi Jonathan. Thanks for the replies - they got us talking about a bunch of things! We totally agree about the entrance to the living space - it is too crowded - and the utility room does seem overly large. As a result we're now thinking of broaching the following with the architects. Mirror the stairs mum has on her side to where our current utility room is. They don't need much space which allows for the adjacent study to grow. They would also no longer encroach on the hallway - allowing for a wider door and wider access to it. As an added benefit the stairs would exist facing a better direction (towards the familly bathroom) on the first floor. Potentially this could be three wins! This is the upstairs plan, btw, with the stairs ending facing a wall: The utility room would be moved to the front of the house where the wc and cloakroom are and while we would lose the outside access, it would be close to the front door to get the dogs in quick. The downstairs wc could then go under the stairs? I think that would work. I like the idea of the seperate games room but my better half has vetoed it. She's adamant she wants it in the main social area. And mum was toying with a bedroom downstairs, but would rather the space for other things. It is a good suggestion and one that i've echoed, but she is strong willed and knows what she wants (I wouldn't have it any other way!). A lift or stair master may be on the cards at some point, though. Cheers again for the input!...See MoreDonna
