Painted vs. wood kitchen?
Comments (4)If you do go for a painted kitchen then make sure it is hand painted rather than sprayed. It's much easier to touch up a hand painted kitchen. Also it doesn't have the same evenness of finish so if a few blemishes appear they won't stand out in the same way. I think you are right that natural wood will not show scratches and stains etc to the same extent, but also we are more tuned into the idea of wood being a bit worn so perhaps won't see these things as such a problem....See MoreHelp with layout of long narrow kitchen / diner
Comments (10)Hello Karen, The pic is a bit too small and doesn't really enlarge to see what's happening here.. It's not always the case that offering another bedroom would be the right way to go in order to make more money as I'm assuming this is the reasoning... If the space is obviously kitchen and dining it's really difficult too with the spatial configurations to offer this as living room as well. I think a straight galley would be good here and what I would design, but with windows possibly not this run on window side but on the opposite side with the configuration I'm going to suggest... Start with a full height fridge freezer in the corner Then have a run of two cabinets and then free standing range at 60 wide and then two further low cabinets and then sink with slimline dishwasher for example.. So roughly going to about 460 or so. . Maybe you could incorporate a free standing dresser for crockery/glassware opposite and then the 4 cupboards would be pots and pans etc... keeping the galley minimal means the space opens as much as possible... . How you deal with the colours etc will of course have further impact.. If you had this on the wall side you could then have some overhead cabinets if you wanted to... Many interesting ways of doing this that is not just uniform and boring.. I'd keep the front room as a living room and rear as bedroom, there may be a way to re plan the bathroom to make it smaller whilst retaining what is essential... for a bath consider a soaking tub which is a meter wide or a tiny bath with shower fitting overhead.. : ))...See MoreIs wooden floor in kitchen a big no no??!
Comments (36)I have been having this debate. Wood vs wood look tiles. In the end I have decided to have wood look tiles, because I know wood would get scratched and it would bother me. We have small boisterous kids, we move furniture around a lot (dining table when we have guests, sofa to check for lost toys, breakfast stools and chairs all the time) - those felt pads end up coming off - and I don‘t want to be nagging all visitors to take their shoes off. So for us, the tiles are better. But only with UFH, and rugs in the sitting area....See MoreWood floor damage during kitchen renovation
Comments (10)“The GM saw this, apologized and said he would make it right.” If they’ve said they will make it right then my next step would be to arrange a sit down to walk and talk through the issues (make sure to document the issues before the review so you don’t forget any). Then set an agreed date that you expect the issues // snagging to be resolved and make sure to keep lines of communication open and regular contact while the work takes place. Most contractors are decent people and will work with you (within reason) to get a good finish to the work. One thing I’d advise is to make sure to document any and all communication (follow up phone calls / face-to-face with an email confirming everything you talked through), not that it will end bad but you need to build in a contingency plan which could result in small claims court, meaning you put yourself in the best position possible if you need to present a case. Keep us updated with how things go....See MoreDaisy England
