Decorating a through lounge: one colour or accents?

Hi lovely people
We have just knocked through to create a bigger lounge-diner in our Victorian terrace. My question is: would you paint the whole room in one colour? Totally different colours in both sections? Tones of different colours? I'd love some suggestions and examples please. Thank you!

Hey there, I have some photos for inspiration if these would help you get an idea at all?Depends on if you would prefer brighter colours or dark too, however, this is my own personal opinion that brighter colours would look much better and would help the with the mood of the room :) hope these help!

If the joined rooms provide one for the same purpose then one colour throughout would probably look better. Of course, depends on your style;)

On the other hand, if the two rooms have no wall between but have different purposes then feel comfortable creating two colored/toned areas.

1. Swap the window seats for s low upholstered bench. 2. Add a side table between the door and sofa, with a table lamp. 3. Hang something beautiful over the fireplace. A painting or mirror, and other smaller paintings behind the sofa. 4. Replace the two tall dark pieces of furniture with mid-height pieces to balance the tall chimney breast. These should have table lamps or wall lights above. 5. If it still needs more, add a low coffee table in the middle and low stools.

The room is in good shape and it appears to be only cosmetic changes that are needed, so I would consider simplifying the whole design as follows: · Paint: You mention grey as one of your preferred colours, so I would try a sample of either Farrow or Ball’s Elephant’s Breath paint or Strong White to see what looks best sits best in the room. Both are contemporary favourites but will flatter the space and alter the atmosphere. Otherwise, aim for off-whites with a creamy, yellow tone to encourage warmth. · Furniture: Purchase furniture with legs to encourage the flow of light and space but if possible do not block the lovely elongated windows. Add a feature Chesterfield ottoman to centre the room and soften the new space. · Window treatment: Instead of curtains, I would actually use sheer voiles across the windows and have Roman blinds in place for the colder evenings to enhance the sumptuous, traditional feel. · Pieces: Add a large timeless mirror above the fireplace to bounce light around the room and maintain that area as the focal point. · Lighting: Work with illuminating the light through the room not only via a pendant light (consider a glass chandelier here) as this will only provide task lighting. You also want to aim for ambient lighting via glass base lamps in the corners and free standing tall lamps. · Soft furnishings: Apply hints of mustard and teal into the soft furnishings such as the cushions will complement the tones from the parquet flooring.

Hi The room size is about 5 meter * 12 meter. I am planning to replace the sofas. One side of the room has bay window and other side’s window will be closing. I am struggling to find what colour of walls or choose 1 feature wall???will go along with the floor and furniture i have chosen.i want gold furniture but confuse about the wall colours and sofa colour and most importantly where to put these things because you can see my living room is long rectangular shape its bit tricky to decide where to put tv,sofas,which sofa shape we can go with either L shape or 3-4 seater etc etc because room got 2 main entrances and third door is going to dinning room,i have uploaded some furniture picture what i have choose and some extra pictures Thanks in advance!

The floor is lovely--I think a bit of decorating will help fix things. There is too much visible floor--you need a couple of large rugs to define spaces, which will also cover much of the floor area. Your living room rug needs to be much bigger--large enough for at least all the front feet of your furniture. I would use another large rug on this side of the sofa to define this space, too. Buying a couple of extra large rugs is much less expensive, and less labour, than relaying the entire floor! I also think the paneling is too stark (and tall) for the room; I would paint it a darker colour, something that continues the tone with the walls. Right now, the contrast between the walls and the paneling is too stark. (Think about lowering the paneling too, but that is much more work!) I would also think about moving the television away from that beautiful window. Finally, I would think about introducing some throw pillows on the sofa to soften the leather and bring its colours more in line with the rest of the room. Right now, you have a yellowish floor, bright white panels and ceilings, blue walls, red/yellow/green rug, and a beige sofa, and it is all a bit jarring and bright. Pick a complementary colour palette that you like, and use your a mix of palette and neutr paint, rugs, cushions, blankets, curtains, and some green plants to tie the room together. oh, and art or pictures! yeah, the paneling is far too high--you don't really have room to put anything on the walls above it. :(

I'd use two different shades of the same colour to create some 'movement' and add a bit of interest and drama to the design :)
