Ideas for a tiny garden
Comments (52)Personally I think the grass, yellow bricks and the fence are a bit too uninspiring. How about trying to break it up a bit - thin beds with climbers against fence and extra beds / pots / paths to add different levels. Think of cakes on a cake stand, the more levels, the better it looks. Red cedar slatted fence to replace the existing, trailing plants over the walls. Talk to a good gardener to talk about the right plants for their position and also consider doing a watering system to make it super low maintenance (they don't cost the earth). Good luck with it - post some photos of the project!...See MoreAnyone got any good ideas for making an ex council house look cool?
Comments (61)I live in the Scottish Borders and three years ago there was a government incentive to externally insulate the houses. Due to the construction of the houses (poured concrete they couldn’t have cavity wall insulation ) . The difference to the heating bills is unbelievable but the look of the house is fabulous as there was new render put on new window sills and down pipes .i agree with the comment that just doing one house would stand out like a sore thumb but it just takes one to start the ball rolling . Maybe speak to your neighbours and they may want to do the same . All the houses in my street had the cladding and it has transformed the look of the street . I have since revamped my lounge and kitchen. There was nothing wrong with the kitchen cupboards so they where painted ,new work tops and sink . I did have a breakfast bar that took up a lot of room which I have replaced with a glass table . My next project is my bedroom which is getting refitted with new wardrobes and draws . Ex local authority houses are well built and have big rooms , they are worth buying as you can do so much with them ,I have bigger cupboards than the rooms that are in some new builds . This is my kitchen, it is so much lighter and more space . The back board is the same as the work top , so no tiles to grout ....See MoreNeed inspiration for dull driveway and garden
Comments (11)This all depends on your budget for the project. In similar front gardens I have used galvanised water troughs from farm shops (Mole Valley have them at reasonable prices) and planted with nice structural bamboo (Phyllostachys nigra is one of my favourites) . Two troughs down each side will frame the house. Alternatively two large planters with either bay standards or, in a sunny aspect, olive standards (lollipop shape) either side of the door gives timeless and elegant style to the entrance. To ensure you get exactly the right garden at the back I recommend contacting a local garden designer to come and talk through some ideas. They will help work out your practical needs for the space and help maximise the budget....See MoreLooking for ideas for front garden
Comments (1)Hi there! Arch over the gate sounds nice! With regards to the fence pannels on top of the wall, I would just be mindful since you are usually limited to 1m for front gardens. You could also go for plants that have an open format such as tall grasses for this. I would fill your borders with a mixture of low maintenance shrubs and perennials not just a lawn so that you add height, colour, a variety of forms and year around interest. Just be mindful when choosing the planting to match it to your garden's specific conditions (soil composition and pH, level of sunlight, exposure etc) so that they thrive! If you would like professional help, please have a look at my website. I offer a range of online garden design services (planting design only, full garden plan etc) and have just won best of Houzz in Service for 2022. I would love to help you with this project! www.therootedconceptgardendesign.co.uk Please do get in touch if interested! All the best, Deborah deborahbiasoli@gmail.com 07548105456...See Moretamp75
