Refrigerator install

Hello. It looks like you installed a freestanding CD F&P fridge but pushed it in so the door is flush. How much clearance did you allow next to the doors so that they open all the way? Thank you

Thanks for looking, there is approx. 40mm gap on each side, but we did fill these gaps set back beyond the doors to give that appearance.

Thank you for your response. The manual calls for 90-135 mm clearance for the doors to be flush. How do you manage the doors to be open with only 40 mm? Would you say the manufacturer’s clearance is conservative?

i agree with oneplan completely. this hasn't been designed and its been done on inferior design software with no care to propping or dressing the room to make it look like a room you want to live in. its all very well putting in blocks of units in solid colours, but a kitchen designer doesn't put units on walls and leave it there, the room is decorated, floored, propped, lit up etc etc and then you would not feel so hesitant about it all. there's nothing wrong with the layout per say, its fairly standard, I just think you have not been able to visualise yourself in the room. go back to your designer and ask him (or her) to put some colour in the room, to play with a feature wall, to prop it a bit, to play about with different flooring so that you can get a feel about the room and what you would like.

Hi Chris, I agree with the above that you really need to discuss it with him and let him know that he hasn't worked to your plans (or the designers plans). You don't want to end up further down the line and something happens as a result, or you are unhappy with a space you have put so much time and money into - due to a mistake from someone else. I personally wouldn't have them under the units and don't design it to go underneath with any of my clients as I do keep food in mine and wouldn't want it diminishing the effectiveness of my appliances. Over all it could end up costing more in electricity or running the appliances down sooner. I would get it changed, after all you paid your kitchen designer to design this lovely space for you, which was done properly and should be enjoyed. Minie101 - thank you so much for the info attached. That's exactly what I needed. I'm glad you see why I'm so upset. and, yes, I did think it was a simple mistake and they hadn't updated their Operating Manual. I kept telling Samsung Tech services this, but they just kept coming back with the same stock phrase, 'Samsung recommend leaving 50 mm either side of the appliance'. They're all so polite it's difficult to get angry with them, but the answer never changes. I've had the same phone conversation with 4 different people so far, supposedly each one higher rank than the last. The last one, who was a manager in tech customer service told me, faultlessly politely, I was now the owner, if I wanted to build cabinets around the appliance I could. In fact, I could do what I wanted with it! I said, brilliant. Can you give me a written assurance that it's safe to do that because otherwise it might invalidate my house insurance (plus, after Grenfell Tower, I wouldn't want to risk anyone's life ). Oh no, he said, Samsung recommends a gap of 50 mm either side, for ventilation! It's like something out of Groundog Day. Or Kafka! I've got a formal complaint in with them at the moment and I'll see what they come back with by Tuesday. I keep thinking, this is their flagship range. They can't have got it this wrong, surely?

layout 2 provides a more ergonomic solution for food storage. Having the fridge & freezer closer to the entrance means the path is shortest when putting away groceries. Having the larder units and refrigeration together means all chilled, frozen and ambient food is stored in close proximity - this makes it easier when starting the prep of meals. If you opt for layout 1 do be aware the breakfast bar seating is in an area of high traffic.. its where the refrigeration is and is a main route to the dining area and door to the outside. It may be worth considering moving it to the opposite side. This would be a natural position offering a perch point as soon as you come into the room and also benefits from looking out into the garden.
