Struggling with kitchen colours, help please!
Comments (13)As it is west facing, I imagine you get lots of beautiful daylight? The downside of dark counter tops is that they actually show lint & dust a lot more than a lighter worktop. I would advise getting a dark piece of plastic or tile & leaving it in your brightest part of the room for a week & see how much you have you polish it up to get an idea of if it will be practical for you. The upside of lots of daylight is that you can still go for warm undertones & they won't age looking yellow as they get older, I would be tempted to do a warm grey base & lighter top in your space, a tip that we don't do in the UK enough is boxing in the space above the wall units, by doing that it will make your ceiling look higher & the space feel bigger, some MDF & a splash of paint will give you the look for minimal cost, you could even or handles in some of the space to give the illusion of custom cupboards are there. Finally I would do a porch light & be brave with brass finishes. A west facing room is such a treat I would be tempted to give it some wow factor in the finishes to make it feel like a retreat....See MoreCan you help with ideas - struggling to choose colour from go with wal
Comments (13)Don't go for a green I've done this before the green and grey are really difficult to get right especially a pale green they are too close. I think you may end up with the same situation you have now. Your 2 colours are similar but not enough to get the family vote. It's either scrap that idea altogether, which is a shame- I think it could look great. The look is modern midcentury which would really work with your stairs and won't be too busy to unite the upstairs and downstairs spaces. Trust your first thoughts You'd need to find a way of marrying them together with either a bold contrast colour just a little to enliven the look or go for a subtle pattern with both the back ground wallpaper colour and the grey. I'd vote for the darkest on your selection of 4 May I give one more opinionated comment - don't paint the stairs white, please! I think they really suit the style you appear to be going towards 'midcentury modern' I like this look a lot! -hence my chipping in with an opinion again. Change your ceiling light, if funds allow. We have a really good offer at the moment that may help if you decide to look at lighting. Just take a peak at the our website. I hope it'll give a little inspiration. Does everyones opinions help you or make it worse? I would possibly make me dither. Don't be worried, go with your own thoughts, tis your home after all- if you like it, that's all that matters. I'd love to see the finished results. Will you post a pic when your finished? The Lighting Company...See Moreadvice re living room colour/layout/flooring
Comments (7)With regards to colour, One solution would be a neutral palatte for the walls with colour added by way of natural material and textures; a timber floor being an ideal starting point. There are lots of opportunities from lighting, wall art and other accessories to add colour such as the kitchen/living design below where we kept the walls and units white but added copper lighting, timber shelving, flooring and furniture to enliven the space....See MoreHelp with open plan kitchen wall colour please as I’m struggling!
Comments (25)I would have poo poo’d this idea before as I’d wonder what the point was, but make your self a mood board using the colours roughly in the same ratios. Are you planning on having some artwork as this may be the lynchpin that helps it hang all together. Pulling colours through from that will help the scheme. Tonal can be soft and soothing but needs layering up with texture to create a cohesive scheme. Alternatively pops of bright colour can look amazing and your kitchen is lovely and bright with good bones. What is the rest of your house like, and what is your style?...See MoreSarah Robson
