Modernising 1970s House front

About to buy the house. The house front needs updating . I am not a fan of stone or wood cladding. I am hoping some of the experts can give some hints and advice on how to to do this. I only have a small budget. What are my options ?. I hate the flat roof look at the front.

Hi Greg, I think the windows definitely need to change. Casement does seem like a good option as it gives you more glass and are affordable. You could go for some powder coated aluminium to match the garage? but this is a much higher price. The door is a nice touch and I personally like them but it really depends on the style you are going for with your interiors (and exteriors) and whether this is in keeping with that. Is it something you need? and if not.. will it really support the style you are going for? I think it is hard to give too much advise because I don't really know what you are trying to achieve at this point. Thank you Gina for the advice! I think it does have good lines - glad you think so too! I don't think our budget will extend to rendering the whole front of the house unfortunately. We will definitely be getting a new front door - and we are reluctant to paint the garage doors so will match the front door with them I think. I should have said the upstairs window will become a Juliet balcony. The cladding on the top dark area is the same as under the front window. We were thinking of replacing the cladding with more contemporary grey horizontal cladding but we're still left with the problem then of what to do with the brickwork ?!

Personally I think the issue is the proportions. I think the porch roof is too dominant, it makes the upstairs windows too small and therefore the cladding look top heavy. I also think that the front door looks small. I think you should swap the porch for a flat roofed alternative with an overhang, change the windows on the front for deeper ones and cut a wide path to the front door to help make the entrance feel grander. I might also paint the brickwork under the porch to help make the front door more prominent. Please excuse the scrappy picture- I hope it still helps illustrate what I meant.

Maybe you could post a few more pics from different angles and further back? Colourhappy, I love reading your posts especially about colour because I’m interested in colour and find tones really hard, but here I don’t think it looks difficult, it looks to me that railings on the bottom of this house won’t clash with next door? The red tiles on the top are next to their white boarding and both separated from bottom by the overhang. ? I liked painting bricks white idea but since the doors and windows are different white upvc I thought that might be be difficult and lose any definition? Plus if you plant for example fatsia in the gravel which grows to around the 1.6 m height when not sheltered that breaks it up too.
